Politics Gun laws and news around the world

True, 22s, along with cut down shotguns, are the most commonly used firearms for murder. But semiauto 22s, again, cut down to a pistol grip, short barrel with a suppressor. MSSA are trophy weapons used as currency. Too big to move around discretely.

Perfectly framed once they have one thing banned for no apparent reason they move on to the next... I give you the Browning Bar to ponder.

Now more than 70% of the counties will be considering being Gun Sanctuaries.

To shift gears, here's a story from Australia that I've been waiting for an update:

Queensland police gave serving officer permission to run rightwing gun blog
A popular Australian gun blog, Ozzie Reviews, which is frequently critical of firearms laws and posts far-right political content, is run by a serving Queensland police officer with formal permission from his superiors.

Police records obtained by Guardian Australia show the senior constable, Corrie Dixon, was given a $6,300 taxpayer grant to attend a specialist firearms training course in the US three years ago as part of his police training.

Dixon has run his blog and online business Ozzie Reviews – which has a presence on Facebook, YouTube and Patreon – since 2012.

He claims online to have made income from contract shooting, content subscriptions and selling merchandise. He does not publicly represent himself as member of the Queensland police.
Dixon uploads video reviews of legal weapons and accessories. He has also posted advice for people on how to obtain Queensland weapons licences.

His posts are often tinged with political commentary about gun laws and he urges followers to join political and lobbying efforts to weaken restrictions. For instance, in September he called on supporters to “stand and fight” against gun restrictions. Dixon said he felt “punished for the actions of a person whom I didn’t even know” after the Port Arthur massacre, when Australia implemented its national firearms agreement.
Samantha Lee, the chair of Gun Control Australia, said: “It is disturbing that a police officer whose job it is to enforce gun laws is publicly informing and showing people … how to work towards dismantling them.

“Police officers are often the first ones at the scene of gun massacres and firearm homicide. The last thing this country and police force needs is a police officer pushing an American-style gun culture and promoting general access to assault rifles.”

This was posted on October 21st and there's been some predictable pearl clenching on social media but otherwise nothing.

Now as of 11/23/2019, I don't hear a peep regarding this bloke nor any more hysterics.

In fact, he's been uploading pretty regularly even with so called assault rifles and the dreaded Adler shotgun:

Guys, something potentially big has happened in New York

I’m following the situation going down with @whiskey_warrior_556 on IG right now. **IF** everything I’m hearing is true, someone called in a red flag against him and now NY police are trying to search his home for 30 round Magazines so they can arrest him for it.
This is exactly what the gun community has been warning everyone else about. If a man who has served his country can get arrested for having standard capacity magazines what do you think will happen to you? I’m getting as much info as I can but you can also follow his page for more information.
I hope everything ends peacefully

Police: Putnam County standoff ends peacefully after 7 hour standoff
Police say it started after 2 p.m. when they went to speak with a 28-year-old man about a domestic incident involving his wife earlier in the day. They say he then barricaded himself in the home.

Police say they don't believe he had a gun and no one else in the community was in danger.

Negotiators worked throughout the day to try to get him to come out, but police say that he was posting live updates on social media. They say his followers only aggravated the situation.

"This is a person in crisis, having mental illness, having issues and he didn't need the people on social media telling him that his rights are being violated," said Chief Michael Cazzari of the Carmel Police. "He needed help. Medical help."

Police say that man is not expected to face any charges from the standoff.

During the standoff he was asking for help and around 100 supporters showed up to help him and big online gun personalities like Collin Noir made more people aware of the situation.

The Twitter account Whisky and Rebellion was flooded with thousands of people pledging supporting and asking for situation updates. The non-emergency 911 hotline for the police department was basically out of service due to the sheer number of calls condemning the police handling of the situation.

His GoFundMe Legal defense fund is at $9,400 past the goal of $5,000. The social media accounts of all the law enforcement agencies involved in the incident are being spammed by support messages for the Vet.

As of now, it looks like the police will charge him after all, despite them earlier saying they won't. Now the Firearm Policy Coalition (a major player who has several lawsuits against California) are setting up lawyers for him.

This is pretty important.

Edit: Already way past $10,000 and it’s only been 4 hours since the account was set up.

Not really news but British Anti-Gun activism:
In February the Great British Shooting Show is set to take place at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham. The show will be selling lethal weapons used to kill innocent animals, and describes itself as “literally a megastore for the shotgun shooter.”
The show is inviting children 15 years and under for free - this is teaching them that it's ok to shoot, hunt and kill innocent animals for fun, which is unacceptable when society is trying to encourage compassion and care for the planet and its inhabitants during the environmental crisis we find ourselves in.
Following public pressure and a huge petition, a similar event in Liverpool has already been stopped. We the people of Birmingham are demanding that the NEC now cancels this show in Birmingham!
The show will host companies which sell rifles, shotguns, ammunition and other shooting accessories as well as hunting equipment and knives. These are used to kill animals such as deer, foxes, badgers and especially birds. It’s estimated that around 100,000 birds are killed everyday in the UK during the shooting season.
I cannot stand by when this type of senseless killing is promoted here in my town. That’s why I’m calling on the NEC to cancel this extremely barbaric show.
The NEC has already caved in to public pressure and removed safari trophy hunting companies from the show, but it’s not enough. I want them to cancel it altogether because it’s time to oppose this outdated hobby of shooting and hunting wild animals for fun in the UK, and ban blood sports once and for all.
If the senseless hunting of animals is not stopped it will almost certainly lead to Britain’s wildlife becoming endangered in the near future, where we will join other countries around the world who are losing their iconic animals because of this cruel, old fashioned, outdated and unnecessary pastime.
The time has come to stop hunting animals for sport in the UK, there is no place in society for guns or a shooting show that promotes them.
Please sign my petition to stop the sale of guns that are killing animals at home and abroad.

Votes are 96,000 out of 15,000.

Also look at the bold: it’s yet another attempt to ban guns only this time it’s THINK OF THE DEER.

"Innocent" animals presupposes there are "guilty" animals which makes no sense whatsoever. I don't hunt, but I'm woke enough to realize that left unchecked, prey species multiply rapidly, outstrip their food supply and die slow horrible deaths from disease and starvation. Or they are eaten alive by the predators that remain. The "humane" option, at least in my mind, is hunting.

Actually today I was wondering as I chewed on my pork chop than maybe, just maybe they did me a favor. Instead of overcrowding those pigs, instead better pig welfare, accommodation and feed made them happier and consequently succulently tenderer.

19 States Now Have Counties with Second Amendment Sanctuaries in Place

Just in the past month, counties in Virginia, Wisconsin, Florida, Tennessee, and Arizona have enacted versions of SASOs, bringing the number of states that have them up to 19.

Second Amendment Sanctuary Surge Continues In Virginia
On Monday, the Virginia Citizens Defense League’s Philip Van Cleave reported that King William, Powhatan, Southampton counties had approved their resolutions,, and Tuesday morning, the VCDL website confirmed 15 Second Amendment Sanctuary counties. Just 24 hours later the list had grown to 20 names.

  • Appomattox
  • Botetourt
  • Campbell
  • Carroll
  • Charlotte
  • Dickenson
  • Dinwiddie
  • Giles
  • Henry
  • King William
  • Lee
  • Madison
  • Nottoway
  • Patrick
  • Pittsylvania
  • Powhatan
  • Southampton
  • Sussex
  • Washington
  • Wythe
As it turns out, even that list doesn’t contain all of the counties, which isn’t a criticism of the folks at VCDL, just an indication of how quickly these resolutions are spreading, and the truly grassroots and local nature of the movement. It’s nearly impossible to keep up with developments at the moment, but I can tell you that also on Tuesday, Bland County passed its resolution, which puts the number of Second Amendment Sanctuary counties at 21, by my estimate.

Also, these movements are with hundreds and in some cases thousands of people.

Why? Because Virginia Democrats are trying to pass a bill that de facto bans all semi-auto rifles and turns all those people into felons.

Not only that, but they have prefiled a bill that makes self-defense training illegal AND makes it a felony if two or more people are training with firearms.

You couldn't make this up ......

Its crazy but that's what happens when we sit idly by and the system quietly writes up laws.

Most firearms owners will have been emailed yesterday by Police announcing new regulations which are coming into effect today.
Police say they just provide safeguards for people waiting for decisions on exemptions when the amnesty ends on 20 December. So far, so good – it seems likely that thousands of people will be in that predicament. They include people seeking pest control exemptions, people asking for license endorsements to continue as antique collectors and other exemptions provided for in the law. Clearly the process has overwhelmed Police resources. So an effective extension of the 20 December deadline for such people was becoming unavoidable.

But the regulations fail to deal with a range of similar problems.

More ominously they go further.

New regulation 28LA lets the Commissioner unilaterally decide not to compensate fully for more than the quantity of parts and magazines that ‘the Commissioner considers appropriate for the reasonable personal use of the person’.

This new regulation reneges on the key reassurance from the government, reiterated this month by the Prime Minister in talking to Stephen Colbert, that people would get fair compensation.
This regulation should seriously worry all New Zealanders, and particularly lawyers who defend the rule of law. We inherited with the Treaty the right to compensation for property confiscated by the government. The Arms Act before the changes earlier this year had provisions showing proper respect for that principle.
This new regulation effectively says – “If you’ve had more than we think you needed, you don’t deserve normal rights. We’ll just seize your excess and for that only pay you less, unrelated to what it is worth now, possibly only what you paid, if you can tell us what that was.
Many collectors will have far more parts than they will ever need for personal use. Some people just love having everything anyone might possibly break, or look for. Others will be the amateur go-to fixer of broken firearms. They’ll have sheds of parts they’ve painstakingly built up, boxes of rare parts were made unlawful overnight.
New regulation 28LC now means to get compensation that you may have to prove what price you bought things for. How many people can do that with much-loved items, or parts accumulated over the years, for anything they have?
Less than a month from the end of the amnesty, they’re trying to clarify key provisions on compensation. They are still not consulting enough to get things right.
We’ll report further on some of the further changes they should make - like
  • confirming that people still with prohibited ammunition post 30 September (when the amnesty on ammunition ended) will not be prosecuted when they try to surrender it
  • clarifying the concessions for people caught up in delayed gun modification The Police list of gunsmiths approved for modifications did not come out till 23 September, and they are overwhelmed.

In the meantime, you can read Nicole statement to the media here. Thank you for your continued support.

@NZM305 commented on the treaty within his submission.

Still waiting to hear back from the Tribunal, will chase it up next week. Can't see how it can be turned down, as to me it seems a very fundamental breach.

Alberta’s regional government just passed a motion to protect law abiding gun owners from the Canadian Government.

It’s a sad day when you find yourself agreeing with a gang member, because they’re making more sense than the government... https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national...egislation-guns-don-t-kill-people-kill-people to summarise, it’s in the title, “guns don’t kill, people kill”. Somehow dealing with the ‘how’ will make the ‘why’ go away.

And, Muslims don’t want to be associated with the next swag of gun laws, http://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/natio...-mosque-attacks-muslims/ar-BBXu7j3?ocid=ientp surely, if you believed in the righteousness and necessity of law changes, you’d be openly supportive?

New Zealand gun owners stage protest over tighter controls
MELBOURNE (Reuters) - A group of about 50 New Zealand firearm owners protested further gun reforms on Saturday, sounding a note of discord over the tightening of the country’s gun laws after the mass shooting in Christchurch in March that killed 51 Muslim worshippers.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s efforts on gun control have gained global praise, but at home - with a general election next scheduled for year - she has faced resistance from the federal opposition National Party, gun lobby groups and ordinary citizens over planned legislation introduced in September.

On Saturday, the group of firearms owners staged a protest at a gun buy-back event in Auckland, according to media reports, carrying placards bearing slogans including “This bill hurts ordinary Kiwis!” and “Be safe: reject arms bill”.

Basically: It’s okay when we allow illegal aliens sanctuary in our states/cities but it’s not okay for you to provide sanctuary for legal gun owners and you should be arrested.

Basically blaming lawful owners for something as remote as the devil is on the moon is fertile ground for anyone to question and be correct.
