After a series of absolutely outrageous behavior from our government and Prime Minister: meeting with Putin, insulting Ukraine and praising Russia, hinting at leaving the EU and NATO, interrupting a session of parliament where the prime Minister Fico might have been voted a no confidence resolution, and hinting that Soros is manipulating the entire opposition to harm the "sovereign foreign policy" of Slovakia
...more than 100000 people protested in all towns in Slovakia and we were 60000 in Bratislava.
The protest started with the playing of the Czech song from 1968 "May Peace remain on this land" that became the hymn of anticommunist protests after the august 1968 Warsaw pact invasion.
I needed to go and was so happy that we filled "Freedom square" in Bratislava.
A moment of tension when suddenly all the power went out later..but it was no sabotage and it came back on line.
Sad but true. Unfortunately despite the size and education and finances in the EU, it is home to almost none of the worlds top 50 technology companies (SAP and ASML are probably the only two I can think of). There is a culture that discourages risk taking/innovation/change.
With a new reasoning model that matches the performance of ChatGPT o1, DeepSeek managed to turn restrictions into innovation.

It was developed with thousands of hoarded Nvidia chips.
They also profit from a lot from open sources. Close this information flow like they like to close all the other informations flows they don't like and see what remains.

Regarding China overtaking the US, the vast majority of the companies in the top 100 are American, especially the ones who innovate. China just manufacturers the stuff and it's been like that for decades. A company that pushes videos that induce brainrot in people is worrying for an information and cultural aspect, but not from a technical one. A company that peddles cheap Chinese junk isn't breaking any technological barriers either.
And as Picanha said what DeepSeek is doing is taking someone else's work and tweaking it (surprise, surprise). That large investors keep falling for the same Chinese copycat antics and panicking over it is more worrying imo.
I wouldn't put any faith in what they claim to have invested in anything. Any Chinese company = Chinese state and we know how they keep lying about their defence budget too.
I read an account by someone who had tried to ask about Tienanmen. Initially DeepSeek responded that as a language model it wasn't specifically meant for such questions. After being asked to analyse the logic and data behind it's answer and then try again it did come up with a factual account.
Besides the limitations placed on the system to make it shine in a limited scope it revealed something far more interesting imo. Tienanmen has been practically erased from Chinese public consciousness so how did it know about it?
Because the Western tech they copied was fed that data and they either overlooked it or didn't think it would matter for their use. If it had been trained on Chinese data it would never have known.
The person told DeepSeek to incorporate the new knowledge to which it responded positively. He then asked his colleague to try to see if the system had improved. The colleague had to jump through the exact same hoops to get the answer showing that the Ai is either incapable of learning or it's been disabled because the tech isn't up to it or it's seen as undesirable.
A day afterwards they tried again and the same question was answered with a message saying it was not able to answer the question. The Chinese government censors had stepped in.

I tried Copilot image creation a while back with "Trump" and no matter what I asked it said it wasn't allowed to do it.
I haven't tried OpenAI or others, but I suspect it's the same.
DeepAI doesn't seem to have any ideological limitations from what I've seen.
Takes 2m22s before anything jewish is mentioned. And only briefly.
"6 mil people were killed in concentration camps because they Polish, disabled, gay or belonged to another ethnic group".
Yes, specifically Jews.
And they didn't invite Russia, because Russia bad, though Russia liberated the camp (60th Army, 100th Division, Voronezh Front, which also liberated Ukraine).
I was 3d printing and ran out of filament in a colour of Esun supposed to be top line Chinese stuff. The reason I was using it it had absorbed some moisture and even after drying process before printing it was still brittle but usable for simple projects. To finsish I had some Prusa EU made that had been lying around not in a special dry environment for twice as long as the well stored Chinese and this stuff just printed on the machine setting it was not really suitable for.
Appying vanes to my arrow shafts using several kinds of their super glue , a had to use solvent and sand surfaces and the vanes would still blow off after use. Gorilla USA required no prep and vanes simply stay put.
Chinese D2. Using Chinese D2 and the Taiwanese temper it. The sample snapped after levering soft NZ pine wood as had popular for price Honey badger d2 blade twice, the German D2 tempered in Buglaria simply tore up the wood like it had been insulted to be even asked to do such a task.
They are able to copy designs and obviuosly have been trained by the West in the great leap frog but have not had all the trade secrets supplied in things that are not interesting for their govt. Suprised about their D2 though . It's an important steel yet it is very pathetic.
And they didn't invite Russia, because Russia bad, though Russia liberated the camp (60th Army, 100th Division, Voronezh Front, which also liberated Ukraine).
This year's Holocaust Remembrance Day speech to the German Federal Diet was given by Roman Shwarzman, the chairman of the Ukrainian Association of Holocaust Survivors. Why is Shwarzman in Germany? Because Russian bombs destroyed his home and killed his family.
