Politics Gun laws and news around the world

There was a shooting at a Church in Texas, unfortunately nothing new, but what was new was that a security officer and several members of the congregation all drew weapons and stopped the shooting within seconds. Unfortunately, two people died but they saved an entire church full of people:
Update 3:48 p.m. EST Dec. 29: In the livestream video from Sunday morning service, a man believed to be the shooter stands up when the congregation greets each other, shakes hands and leaves the building, KXAS reported.

The man re-entered the church and sat down, the television station reported. After standing up, the man pulls out a firearm and begins shooting, KXAS reported.

According to the video, another man pulls out a handgun and shoots the suspect, the television station reported.

There's a video, you don't see any blood but it is graphic so instead here are some snapshots:

Naturally, the anti-gun side is trying the whole "WHERE'S GOOD GUY WITH GUN?!" shtick but it is failing if indicated in the news reddit.

Holy S**t, like 6 people pulled out a gun when it happened. Check the stream VOD.
The people who were armed and apprehended the shooter are heroes. Hands f***ing down. They all deserve recognition in their community. They have some real bravery.
Seen the video I just wished the first victim that got shot would have instantly drawn instead of slowly standing and second guessing pulling his pistol.... he would be alive as well as the second victim I do believe...
This is why if you're going to be a gun owner you have to train. Go to classes, spend time at the range. Practice your draw. A gun is a tool, you have to learn how to use it responsibly and efficiently. And then hope you never have to
And they all didn't shoot each other is mass confusion. The cops didn't arrive on scene and shoot them in mass confusion.
All the scenarios that gun control fetishists use to argue against CCW failed to occur.
According to the witness, another church member shot the suspect.
Nice job by the church member. As for the suspect, I condemn you to Hell.
Not just one but three members/security reacted

Even Jesus came off the cross with his glock
Texas legalized church carry earlier this year, which gun control proponents heavily mocked and derided.

And a good guy with a gun stopped it.

So big news guys, possibly the biggest news concerning do-it-yourself firearms: Ordinary people can now make smokeless gunpowder and primers in their homes, even in oppressive states

Homemade firearms are easy to make in comparison to ammunition and making homemade smokeless powder and primers is like the Wright Brothers going to the moon.

But if these guys are speaking the truth, then gun control might suffer another blow.

I'm getting along in years and not up to speed on current euphemisms and buzz words... boogaloo means what?

I watched the vid to see the church in White Settlement is mixed race. The shooter's ethnicity has yet to be reported.

All for it but would question the paramilitary get up if the kak hits the fan will be hard for LEOs to separate perps from the good guys.
True, It’s difficult to distinguish between friend and foe in these situations.

My suggestion is more suits and ties and less plate carriers and chest pouches.

I speak that for the rest of the gun owning community too: Less tactical and more presentable especially when the media is present.

So they got 56,346 firearms in......... but i wonder how many more firearms got brought in to replace them?
Thousands of legal .22 semi autos IIRC.

So many to the point that the anti-gun people were hissing and demanding bans.
....
Well...looks like the U.S. anti-gun crowd got dealt a hard blow from the shooting in Texas:

The media can’t ignore Trump’s tweets and the gun grabbers rely on public ignorance to push their agenda.

Explains why that Witch Watts is playing defense all over the Internet and how Biden, who called people stupid for wanting arms inside churches, now has egg on his face.

Still don’t think Trump is a friend of the 2A, but I will give a tip of the hat for him in this regard.

Still waiting for a debate as to why Americans have to live in constant of fear of being massacred even at their places of worship. Instead, all we get is "guns good" vs. "guns bad".

Paraphrasing Chomsky, manufactured descent. Nobody is interested in discussing difficult social problems which lead to those massacres, whilst reaching a sensible common ground on gun control (e.g. background checks); the media and politicians, on the other hand, have everything to gain to pour as much gasoline as they can into one particular aspect of a given issue for their respective gains. Nothing is solved, everybody is angry, everything stays the same.

The problem is not the tools, being firearms, bombs, cars or knifes. It is, why these people choose to do these acts. But you can't build a political career on investigating mental illness.

@IDF_TANKER

The 24-hour news cycle rewards simplistic messages and slapdash actions, that's for sure. Drafting a couple of gun control laws or pulling stunts like arming teachers doesn't cost much time or money. From a political point of view, it's endlessly more efficient to pursue this kind of actionism than actually investigate the underlying problem.

@droopy

Mental illness isn't more prevalent in America than in other developed nation. The point being, the sheer number of attacks can't be explained through that angle.

@muck, no; but @idf_tanker’s point is dealing with the method does nothing to address the motive. If anything, attacking a shooter’s identity, ie taking away his guns, may only cause more active shooter incidents as those people feel increasingly isolated in a world that has to be tolerant. But isn’t. And that is the crux of the whole leftist / socialist argument, who only tolerate people who sympathise with them.

Mmmmm . . . . . not so sure you can write it off as easily as that.

Given the recipe of there being more social alienated people (or those who thing society is out to get them, keep them down) many high school drop outs, unemployed, mommy's basement living son's, drug addicts, petty criminals, addicted violent game players, and an apparent easy access to weapons on the black market, theft, or legitimately owned, the willingness to use violence, rather than dialogue in very simple situations where they are not getting their way, the amount of "normal" people who attend psychiatrists or psychologists offices for help with even the most mundane aspects of life, would hint at some sort of emotional mental issues, this appears to have been creeping into society in the USA since the 1960's.

Every country probably has it to some such degree, but its not yet as evident as whats seen in the USA, dont get me wrong my opinion is based on what has been reported in the papers, and in the last two decades via the net, my own step-daughter is married and living close to Chicago for the last 3 and half years.

Except violent video games, i agree, it is a mix of factors.

I respectfuly disagree. I might not have a study or something like that to back it up. But i think in the USA is one of, if not the most mentally unstable society out there.
I can give you an example, the term "suicide by cop", i was trying to explain that to a bunch of people here in my country. And they could not understand the concept, it has never happened here, ever. Nor did mass stabbings or shootings and mass killers(like Ted Bundy) i think we had about 2 or 3 of them in the last 70 years or so.
A few months ago a mentally ill patient killed about 7 people in his asylum ward with bare hands and a stick he made out of an IV holder, though.

Sure there are suicides, a lot of car accidents(the highest number in EU :( ), people drink too much in some areas, the occasional drug overdose or LEO getting killed by a crimminal. But compared to New York (since the '70s to this day) Romania(and Romania has almost the population of metropolitan New York.) is a quiet, peaceful, dull place, like most of Europe.
