Austrian teen radicalized by Islamic State prepared explosives, knives to attack 30,000 Swifties who had been expected outside pop star’s aborted Vienna show

BERLIN, Germany (AP) — The suspects in the foiled plot to attack Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna earlier this month sought to kill “tens of thousands” of fans before the CIA discovered intelligence that disrupted the planning and led to arrests, the agency’s deputy director said.

The CIA notified Austrian authorities of the scheme, which allegedly included links to the Islamic State group. The intelligence and subsequent arrests ultimately led to the cancellation of three sold-out Eras Tour shows, devastating fans — known as Swifties — who had traveled across the globe to see Swift in concert.

CIA Deputy Director David Cohen addressed the failed plot during the annual Intelligence and National Security Summit, held this week in Maryland.

“They were plotting to kill a huge number — tens of thousands of people at this concert, including I am sure many Americans — and were quite advanced in this,” Cohen said Wednesday. “The Austrians were able to make those arrests because the agency and our partners in the intelligence community provided them information about what this ISIS-connected group was planning to do.”
This could have made Manchester look like nothing in comparison...

The headline is misleading, though. Cohen never said that they'd intended to kill tens of thousands. How they'd even plan to do that?

With a nuke?

According to AP, he said: “They were plotting to kill a huge number — tens of thousands of people at this concert, including I am sure many Americans — and were quite advanced in this […]” (Source)

In other words, he stopped himself mid-sentence to add that tens of thousands of people were going to attend the concert.

That's because they didn't ban them hard enough.

Also, seems like the new approach is to go after people posting on the internet. Surely, THAT TIME, it will reduce crime.

We have zero tolerance for knives here you know, you'd butter believe it!!!

Was know to security services for being an IS fanboy.

Props though for going out in style. Looks like a K98k or Mannlicher M95 rifle with fixed bayonet 👏

IS wants to be a state, so I think it's high time that we finally treat those fuckers who pledge allegiance to them accordingly: as agents of a hostile state. The moment you pledge allegiance to them and spread their propaganda, boom, you're a traitor.

I genuinely don't see why we shouldn't treat them like we do every Russian or Chinese agent that's unmasked.
An 18 y/o "Austrian" islamist opened fire at police officers in front of the consulate using a rifle and was put out to pasture.
We've erased him from this earth, he's gotten his 72 virgins, everybody wins!

As for the inverted commas, it appears he was born in Austria to Bosnian parents. Pretty rare for those types to turn islamist, normally the Balkan peoples are mostly chill about Islam.

Interesting detail, perhaps purely fortuitous but still, this occurred 55 years to the day after the Munich-Olympics hostage crisis by Black September.

Absolutely within the realm of possibility. There's a synagogue at Salzburg where that piece of filth was from, in other words, he had to have a reason to cross the border and travel two hours to go to Munich.
