Politics The COVID-19 pandemic news and discussion.

Look at the map. The flight went through Sochi BECAUSE they want to avoid hostile countries. Russian planes were airforce's planes and in the past years hostile east european regimes often blocked Russian military and government planes.

I think you right that Russia did not request Poland, but it is because Polish politics are famous being hysterical russofobes. Russians just try to avoid that usual polish circus and made flight around.

Putin visit Moscow hospital today where patients with coronavirus are treated.

'So this white suit, its full protection' yes of course.

'And this little white mask, its full protection for me' - yes of course it is.

'And these goggles, from the DIY store, these are the right goggles for a deadly virus?' - yes, yes all correct.

So why the F**K is this guy in a completely different setup?????

Romania - President Iohannis Announces Total Quarantine In Romania As Of March 25

https://www.romaniajournal.ro/socie...s-total-quarantine-in-romania-as-of-march-25/

Basically
- As of tomorrow 25. 03. 2020 - here in Romania, all people over 65 are confined to their homes*, military will be backing up police with regards checking the motives for being out (a) going to essential work, (b) going to the pharmacy (c) going to the shops to buy food, (d) walking the dog near the home. If you are out you have to have a signed, dated deceleration as to why you are out, if you declare one thing and are caught in another location, its a large fine/imprisonment after a 14 day quarantine. Nobody to be out walking or driving on the streets after 20:00 hrs at night until 06:00 hrs in the morning unless its a medical emergency/going to the Pharmacy.

* To be amended because they realized not all 65 y.o. have people to shop for food and medicine for them, shops are asked to create a seperate time for the elderly alone to shop for their items.

…Meanwhile in Ireland they are building up the Armed Forces.......

Good job we control the Ferries...

there is a very strong political/partisan element to this situation, especially here in the U.S.A. I wold say maybe split the thread, but at least from my colonial perspective, they are irrecoverably intertwined, unfortunately.
I would rather it all stay together, in one place, just to be able to more easily connect the dots.
I got that. Let's just not be repetitive in that regard. We don't need to jump up from our seats everytime the press does because Trump said "Chinese virus" again.
Romania Is Fighting The Coronavirus Epidemic With A Shortage Of Doctors Mounting To 40,000

That doesn't sound good, especially considering that many medical workers acquire the virus and can't work because of it. I was hoping that Romania would cope well given the country's relatively high number of ICU beds.

The Romanian medical service has been run into the ground under the control of the P.S.D. Governments in one form or another over the last 15 years, Romanian medical staff left in droves, post Bucharest Collective fire disaster, where burn victims were contaminated after being entered into the new sterile burns facility, hospital disinfectant watering down affair where the company with the contract to supply disinfectants and cleaning liquid to hospitals, were found to have been watering down the material sent to hospitals for a big price (owner crashed is car into a tree killing himself before he could be tried.) Communist era hospitals have degraded so much even going in for a small procedure can be a death sentence.
No toilet paper available in hospital bathrooms, no soap, no towels, no hot water, etc..etc..

People found practicing medicine, dentistry, nursing with fake qualifications, which they bought scandal.

And more recently medical staff 27* in one hospital caught the COVID-19 because they had not got the protective gear in stock, protective gear being stolen from hospitals (sold out the back door) failure for people to declare they were hi-risk after (a) being outside Romania in a red zone, or having contact with a person who returned from Italy, Israel, or Spain.

* number of infected medical staff is at over 100.

Not sure if you all have the same experience from friends and relatives who were abroad when it all started and tried to come back.

Thing is, though Macron said "French citizens will be repatriated", our embassies are apparently telling people to get their tickets from regular air-companies (that's the case of two friends currently in Thailand), and though though the Minister for Foreign Affairs guaranteed plane tickets will remain at an affordable price... well it seems prices are sky-rocketing (up to 4k€/person).

I got the joke.
Yellow suit has better protection (better for short time wearing), but white suit has better protection/comfort ratio (better for long term usage). I know you know it but still.

I found it rude that she didn't even think about sharing her little birdies with her friends. What a bogart.
She was the one working. She deserved at least the little snack. I bet it was a male shooting.

Yes, they are. We see it even in the stimulus bill where partisan rancor is in play. Somehow the Democrats feel that issues that relate to changing voting laws and Post Office regs will help our economy recover. And what Ivan posted above. F*** 'em. In addition, such incredibly bad journalism is divisive and frightening.

If I'm brutally honest, I have little sympathy for the staggering number of tourists out there who saw fit to go on vacation over the past 30, 35 days when the writing had already been on the wall…

I get what Muck is saying... the American posters here and even one Frenchie is beating a dead horse about Trump saying it is a Chinese Virus. Frankly it is a bit petty for this thread, why not put it in all about Trump thread. Keep your politics in those threads, you guys have enough threads.

Noticed something that to the rest of the world, we criticize what the government is doing, it is only in the US where people somehow think the two different parties are two totally different governments.

Fot those that travelled to 3rd world countries, in the last 14 days, no sympathy.

For those on round the world trips, a little sympathy, but by now they should have found a way to get home, by their own devices. If your now stuck, tough, next time watch the news, and plan for an emergency, up to and including getting home, costing $3000.

Emergency power granted to the president

The president can also allocate cash, funds, investments, unused or unreleased subsidies in government corporations or any national government agency to address the COVID-19 emergency. He can also stop programs, projects or activities under the executive department, including government corporations, and use the savings from these to fund the government’s response to the viral disease. (This is good because somehow ech department brags on their savings which is just a waste of funds not being properly used)

He may also direct the operation of privately-owned hospitals, medical facilities, and other establishments to house health workers, serve as quarantine areas, and become quarantine centers, medical and aid centers or temporary health facilities.

He may also direct the operation of passenger vessels to serve transportation needs of health workers. The management of these businesses and establishments will be retained, and they will be compensated for any damage they may sustain as a result of Duterte taking charge of their operations. However, Duterte may still take over their operations if they “unjustifiably refuse or signify that they are no longer capable of operating their enterprises.”

Duterte may also ensure that local government units are acting in line with the national government's policy and may impose corresponding penalties if they disobey directives on quarantine protocols.

It also grants Duterte the power to require businesses to prioritize and accept contracts for materials and services needed to combat COVID-19. Those who refuse may face a two-month jail term and a fine ranging from ₱10,000 to ₱100,000.

Duterte can also now regulate public and private transportation, traffic, and the use of power, fuel, energy and water.

Duterte's powers will be in full force for three months, unless extended by Congress, or withdrawn sooner via a concurrent resolution.

Well instead of playing their mutual blame game, the US citizens (and members on this board as well as the auxiliary frenchman who is french only in name) should watch what is happening right now in the country and feel a bit more concerned

44500 cases
25000 cases in the New York State (7% of the combined worldwide cases)
13% hospitalized of whom 25% are in intensive care
And the curve is going up the Italian way ...................

Yeah i have already accepted that I may have gotten it and some sniffles or a bad cold was it. Considering my job and the fact that I was in Japan, near the airport for almost the entire month of February, and the fact that last week when Manila went into lock down I was in the airport for almost two days, at the height of people rushing to get out.

Cuomo's campaign to slow COVID-19's spread — which include the "PAUSE" ordering non-essential workers home until further notice — may be coupled with an economic plan to reintroduce less vulnerable New Yorkers back into the workforce, the governor said. "You can't stop the economy forever," said Cuomo. "We also have to start to plan the pivot back to economic functionality."

Moderna's RNA easiest to mass produce vaccine won't be ready till after summer in the US for the next Flu season.

Scientists here have been signing petition against herd immunity. Really there isn't a choice. In a purist sense they are right that the health system cannot handle it but the economy can't handle a shut down.
They need to be training lab testing people for one thing, self testing kits provided and ready to use or squander the 4 week shutdown like they did with the too slow border closure.
The petition for more gear is what they need to sign onto. We all know how suck the govt is at that.
