Other Post Covid-19 pandemic in relation to military and police forces

Crews of surface and submarine vessels preparing for duty at sea and on Russia’s remote Arctic bases are among those who are receiving the vaccine.
In the past week, nearly 2,000 people have already received the first dose of the Russian-produced vaccine and about 3,000 more are expected to be vaccinated by the end of the year, officials said.

According to defence officials, no cases of adverse reactions to the vaccine have been reported so far, though some people report temporary fever and feeling of weakness, which is normal for many vaccines.

A total of 93 soldiers tied to the recent NATO military exercises in Northern Norway have since tested positive for the Corona virus. NRK reported on Tuesday that local health officials weren’t informed about infection warnings issued by the state public health institute FHI in advance of the exercises that were ultimately cancelled. They weren’t involved in planning for the exercises either, and were expressing displeasure this week over infection risk for their local communities. Norwegian defense officials have stressed, however, that all arriving soldiers from abroad were sent into quarantine, and isolated if test results were positive.

More than a dozen American soldiers have tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in Norway for military exercises at Setermoen in Troms og Finnmark. They’ve been placed in isolation at the Setermoen camp near Harstad. A total of 3,000 NATO soldiers are due to arrive in Norway for this year’s Joint Viking 2021 winter exercises and all must be tested. A total of 15 from the US Marine Corps have tested positive so far, according to the Norwegian Army. None of them had any symptoms but will remain in isolation for at least 10 days. Around 1,600 soldiers were arriving this week alone, from the US, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Germany. Positive tests were also expected within the British troops, reports state broadcaster NRK.

According to British newspaper The Sun, almost half the warships in the carrier strike group have been hit by positive cases.
It said they include at least 100 crew of the HMS Queen Elizabeth after sailors “were given a run ashore in Limassol”.

Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Jamal Brown said in a statement, “In accordance with the guidance the President issued today, all military and civilian DoD personnel will be asked to attest to their vaccination status. Personnel unable or unwilling to do that will be required to wear a mask, physically distance, comply with a regular testing requirement and be subject to official travel restrictions.”

Carried in a tissue-like gel, the microchip shows chemical reactions in the body – a signal to wearers that they will develop symptoms the next day. This allows them to get tested early for the virus
Another recent DARPA invention is a filter that can be attached to a dialysis machine to remove the coronavirus from the blood of critically ill patients, researchers revealed.

The British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth and its strike group will not make a planned port call at a port in South Korea's southern city of Busan due to the pandemic, sources said Tuesday.
The aircraft carrier had planned the port call later this month, during which they were to hold various joint events for friendship and exchanges, and stage combined exercises.

"We've decided to cancel the port call given the coronavirus situation. Exchanges and other in-person events between the sailors will not take place. But some combined field maneuvers are likely to be staged as planned," a military source said.

A month after the Defense Department's mask mandate for unvaccinated troops went into effect, she was booted from the military, possibly making her the first service member to be forced out of the service for violating COVID-related rules.

McHaffie, who served at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, went viral on social media after appearing in a video with Josh Mandel, a former Ohio state treasurer who is currently in his second run for the Senate. The video, in which she tells her story of being swiftly booted from the Corps for disobeying the mask mandate, had more than 400,000 views as of Tuesday morning.

The achievement is the result of almost two years of work on the virus. The Army lab received its first DNA sequencing of the COVID-19 virus in early 2020. Very early on, Walter Reed’s infectious diseases branch decided to focus on making a vaccine that would work against not just the existing strain but all of its potential variants as well.
