Politics The COVID-19 pandemic news and discussion.

Italian doctors are fashioning oxygen tent/ventilator domes from clear sheet plastic sheeting and tape with pressure gauges and air supply hose jerry rigged attached. It fits over the headd. Likely surgically tapped somehow onto the patient so as not to lose oxygen and keep pressure.
Sounds like an Apollo 13 project. They used duct tape too though.

On a mildly humourous note, I work for a large corporation but am a homeworker whilst the rest of the company are office based. Over the last week more and more of these office workers are beginning to work from home and it's putting a massive load on the company VPNs.

Was discussing it with my boss and I used the term "pre-virus levels" and at the same time we both realised I'd uttered a term used in a hundred shitty horror movies and we're basically living in a badly scripted film.
Do you fancy an appointment at our Bedworth Health Centre? I booked mine, that had nothing to do with the virus, about 1 month ago for the 2nd April and I've just been told all face-to-face appoinments will be telephone ones. My doctor will call me.

Need TP? This guy has got all varieties of MRE issued wipes you can possibly get:

Nowhere left to go really unless you planned on sending the UK back to the stone age .

Though at what point does this printed stuff they call fiat money, loose its fiat. As we are in historically uncharted territory with interest rates. Not even medieval plagues saw rates this low. Will we end up sticking it under mattresses such as gold or the reserve dollar as who would invest in shares, businesses or invest for no return.

If the US dollar goes up in value those in debt to pay their US $ denominated loans have to pay more and get into default.

Anyway doesn't make anymore sense to me.

Far more cleverer Fed reserve Governor suggests the fed loans directly to businesses with approval, move the banks to one side so they can offer lowest interest rate long term loans. Not a bad idea.

The worst daily death toll in Italy:

The Polish press says Spain is running out of resources and people who are too sick or too old will not be treated, so the others will have a better chance to survive.

The situation in Poland is getting worse and schools will be closed at least till the 13th April.
This begins also to be discussed here....just in case (that everybody knowing expects)
Let's be clear: at the peak of transmission there will be filters and layers of priority about who will get a bed with respiratory support and who will not.

Frankly, they are trying anything. What’s been done is ok in the U.K., the basic plan is to freeze, until things resolve, then we will ‘need’ pubs, airlines, etc.

to let millions go unemployed, thus being prepared to do anything for £10, is not going to work.

the cost to put everyone on the dole, bankrupt businesses, house repossessions etc, would guarantee recession, or depression once we come out the other side.

there will be a positive bounce, as we will all need a holiday after this, surprised the holiday firms aren’t selling future bonds, giving us priority.

so we are in strange times, everyone needs to roll with it.... enjoy the break!

Of course there will be, and in some ways there always has been, just will be more open in these times.

I suggest many 90 year old would ask that they prioritise their kids, or grandkids, most will have made their peace.

we are all going to die. Sorry if that’s news to anyone.

Wall Street Journal

We were already living in "borrowed times". Economies rellying on interest rate cuts the proof.

And I think they realise 0% rates can’t really go lower, so they print some money, and give it to us.

surreal times, for those with a job, it looks a bit strange, for those at risk or already fired, it’s Very reassuring.

it’s temporary, make the most of it, enjoy the time with family, look after your team.

I wonder if the pandemic will help to bring universal legalization of voluntary euthanasia.

Whatever happens with this you can bet that the world as we knew it is gone.
I would hope that conflict can be avoided, but unfortunately it benefits those in charge of this fiasco to find scapegoats.

Whatever happens, don’t come to Poland any soon.
People who don’t stick to the quarantine are fined 30,000 PLN which is an equivalent of $7500.
