The P1 and its derivative P2 are now major in Brasil (and mostly in South America) and it is confirmed that it is up to 2,4x more transmissible than the older strains (-i.e akin to the british variant)
It promotes also up to 30% of reinfections
50% of patients in ICU in Brasilia and Sao Paulo are in the <40y age bracket, changing the demographic of the outbreak there

The B1.167 variant (New Delhi one) is also a big deal. Major in Bombay and New Delhi that have experienced a flare in cases
Supposed to be more transmissible
resistant to vaccine induced antibodies (vaccines works but you need a higher titer or concentration of antibodies than for previous strains, which means that poorly reacting populations -elders, immunosuppressed, or single jabbed people-) are exposed to reinfection

Theres a surges in the Philippines as well but its from a local variant. From what I've read it is highly mutated if thats even a term. So far people in Manila dont even know how they are spreading it as they are still in masks and have gone back to lockdown

Where's your astonishment coming from? How is the conduct of the press in this situation any different from their usual m.o.? Every news outlet in the world engages in dramatisation and fear-mongering; the grimmer the headline, the higher their ratings.

I agree in spirit, but let us not overlook the fact that leading talking heads within CNN have now gotten caught saying on camera that their agenda was to get Trump out of office. In my humble opinion it becomes a different ball game when a news outlet that prides itself for its professionalism and impartiality amplifies "news" and narratives in order to help one political candidate to the detriment of the another.

I live in Hungary. This is a misrepresentation of government propaganda. The Chinese vaccine has only been used for a few weeks, to vaccinate the young and healthy. Pfizer was given to the old, the chronically ill. This is a deliberate propaganda for success. They really messed it up, about the world's leading mortality rate. Plus they get the Chinese vaccine at multiple times the price and the money disappears into the Orban family pockets.
