Politics Gun laws and news around the world

Legends not withstanding, most of us who get to practice rarely get to practice beyond 50 or 100 yards. I get a chance to do 200 yards about 3-4 times per year and 600 yards about once a year and I'm lucky.
That's still pretty good by any other country's standard, its equipped with a suitable optic also better than the others.

I live in a real hunting town . Our 200 meters been closed by Taxcindy and the safety cops. 600 meters?

Yeah I can do a 200 meter range about once a year. Otherwise it's 100 or nothing.

I still remember the days of rocking up to a mates house and finding rifles just sitting in the corner of the lounge room. Times change. Interestingly it was the Australian conservatives (the liberal party) that heavily restricted firearm ownership. Tobe fair it was the Port Arthur massacre that was the trigger for the crackdown.

There had already been a lot of massacres perpetrated by lone gunmen. Port Arthur was the tipping point. Martin Bryant used an AR-15 purchased via a classifieds ad. Then went on a rampage that killed 35 people.

Did they ever discover how that AR15 the nutjob used went from being handed in to the Victorian police for destruction to "for sale" on Tasmania?

"
"Within four months of the tragedy, the recently elected conservative coalition government under John Howard had orchestrated a tightening of Australia’s state and territory gun laws, which are now some of the strictest in the world."

Impact of tighter gun laws in Australia

There have been no mass shootings in Australia since the terrible events of Port Arthur. The homicide rate involving firearms has greatly decreased, leading to a reduction in the number of homicide deaths in Australia overall. Gun-related suicide rates have also decreased since the 1996 legislative changes.

John Howard. Conservative PM. FTW!

I am not sure what any of my posts have to do with the second amendment. My apologies.

These guys are the worst.

"Police believe Mr Martin was shot by a sniper, who had set up a kill-shot from more than 300 metres away."

Did restrictive gun laws stop this? No. Are one percent MCs people you don't want to get on the wrong side of? Maybe. I don't know.

This murder happened in my home town and was shocking along with this one from years earlier.

And that the thing. These ranges have seen no deaths yet have been swamped by the safety cops with their delusional worries same time crime is out of control for them. Its a rather stupid look.
So with no ranges available as both Kiwi and mine evidence has shown off we go to the bush, the river flats and the back country tracks like you Ivan the Rus posted to carry out range shooting practice.
