oh come on - we have been bankrolling that lot for years and its about time the plug was pulled - no deal - no £39bn - wto all the way

get the navy in the channel and start impounding EU ships in our waters

to be absolutely honest I would be putting every obstacle in the world in front of anything from southern Ireland - and squeeze them till they were back to eating spuds

What is 2+2?
Question: What is the sum of 2 + 2?
An accountant will say "What do you want the answer to be?"

Do you not you find it pathetic though that an organisation the size of the EU fails to produce transparent audited accounts - a house of cards - it just needs a little nudge - or a big one

Yes of course, its not rocket science, Apple file accounts etc.

Its politics, and theft/pork barrel. As old as the sun.

EU will probably soldier on, but as per previous, its really a German buyers club....

The Turkish government is engaging in "unacceptable behaviour" by drilling for gas in waters claimed by Cyprus; claiming an exclusive economic zone in waters also claimed for that purpose by Greece; and other "provocations," Macron insisted.
"We want to avoid any escalation," he added.
"But avoiding escalation cannot mean passivity or acceptance."

Turkey lashed out in response, with the Foreign Ministry calling Macron "arrogant" and reverting to "old colonial reflexes".
Macron is not in a position to make decisions on maritime zones, the ministry in Ankara said, adding that France should favour reconciliation and dialogue instead.
Macron's "individual and nationalist stance encourages tension and puts the major interests of Europe and the EU at risk," the ministry said in a statement.

EU presses China on market access, human rights during virtual summit

After a two-hour video conference, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, EU Council President Charles Michel and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said they also pressed Chinese President Xi Jinping on human rights and the need for international cooperation to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

As an economic competitor to China, the 27-nation EU has struggled to balance its commercial interests against its concerns for human rights in the country, particularly as Beijing has grown more assertive in recent years.

I find it pretty naive how it is dealt with China, they only understand tough pressure. On the human Rights issue they faintly Signal cooperation, but on the yesterday evening news (German ARD) they showed what they proclaimed on their state news TV a strong China which doesn´t accept foreign meddling and thats all evil propaganda against China. What else do you need to see how your opponent ticks?

One must be dumb to not see that - its a one way street.

EU couldn't fight its way out of a paper bag

Iran's another example of turning a blind eye.

Well it's mostly due to Merkel the "kleine Wurst" aka as a pathetic person. Germany under Merkel is actively destroying any weight one could throw at China. For little gain, China has much more to lose in comparison just retarded provincial politicians can turn an advantage into defeat. But somehow these types of leaders is all we have. If you delve deeper the German industry is by far not that reliant on China as oftenly is proclaimed. But like I read in a commentary regarding the EU China summit, in which Merkel luckily didn't get the "deal": for one to act bold and patronizing there is another one required acting shy and submissive.

Hopefully Germany 2020 ends soon "deals" done by Merkel and consorts... shiver... The naive little farm girl in a gangster club.

it would be good to actually see some audited accounts for the EU - I would like to see where all our money has actually gone.....

The EU's accounts have (apparently) never been successfully audited.

Exactly - a bunch of gangsters

I don't know of any other organization that would get away with this sort of rubbish

A bunch of Euros who still thinks they have impact on whats happening outside their sphere... When a bunch white people think they know better than the actual citizens of a country.

MANILA, Philippines — With 200,000 jobs on the line, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said it would be “unforgivable” if the government would just let the European Union (EU) revoke the Philippines’ trade perks as he “strongly” advised the Duterte administration to take the European Parliament’s warning “seriously.”

I don´t think that everyone in the Philipines is happy with the way Duterte reigns. And extrajudicial killings is not something everybody has to like.

Did the crime/drug problem go away btw?

And Police planting drugs on shot down "suspects", children being killed, using the "war on drugs" (literally) to get rid of unwanted persons is something the EU doesn´t have to like. In the end the Philipines population profits from a rule of law government.

Imagine yourself getting into such a situation. You have nothing to do with drugs or crime but someone doesn't like you and you can be killed by cops or vigilantes - some drugs planted beside your corpse explain everything.

You can detain whomever you like and even sentence them to death but at least the rule of law has to be followed. With evidence etc. and all documented.

I think it's the wrong reaction. We should show we are upholding our commitments because it is the EU's right to revoke it as it is only a privilege given to us. They have no obligation to give it to us, but they did because we have commitments to fulfill.

And these commitments are to ensure human rights, freedom of the press, not to persecute political opponents. These are included in the agreement we signed

Finnish PM to stand-in for Swedish colleague at EU Summit

HELSINKI -- Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven won't take part in a European Union meeting in Brussels starting on Thursday since he is attending his mother’s funeral and will be represented by his counterpart from neighboring Finland.

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin will represent the Swedish government at the Oct. 1-2 summit where only heads of state and government participate, Lofven told Sweden’s TT news agency. Sweden’s EU affairs minister Hans Dahlgren also will be present in Brussels, the agency added.

Irregular. I think tells something about the relations.

The EU is a conglomerate of totally different countries who have contradictory goals and priorities. They will never find any common ground, as it's plainly impossible.
That's why its leadership is spineless and cannot come to any agreement in order not to cause any self-harm.

The situation in the Mediterranean is a great example. Erdo started messing around at the expense of Greece and Cyprus that are EU countries. Greece is ready to confront Turkey and France declared that it wants to support it. They don't want to do it without a good backup that is Germany, though. The latter does not want to take any action in fear of the Turkish minority who lives in Germany plus some less important reasons on top of that.

The EU is totally unprepared to deal with a third-party country that is stronK enough to confront us, even if its economy or military makes up a little percentage of the entire EU, but it has a stable and a determined leadership on the other hand.

If confronted, the EU authorities pussy out, offering bribes and freebies, instead of dealing with the threat.

Can you imagine paying your neighbour some good money in order to stop him from taking a sh1t on your porch? It'd be plainly insane.
