It looks like the oldest unsolved crime case in Lancester County (Pennsylvania, USA) is coming to an end. In 1979, 19-year-old newly married Lindy Sue Biechler was sexually assaulted and brutally butchered with a kitchen knife in her home. The authorities investigated the case for years, to no avail. In 1997, they managed to find a DNA sample from the perpetrator, this technology did not exist at the time of the crime. However, despite being registered in the system established in 2000, unlike other known cases, this did not lead to results. The special unit of the FBI known from the TV series "Murderous Minds" could not help either. The "Cold Case" department of the county prosecutor's office took up the case again in 2019. They asked for the help of Parabon NanoLabs, where they managed to set up a profile of the perpetrator. This is how they got to David Sinopoli, a 68-year-old printer and county resident. On February 11, when the man was traveling abroad, the investigators secretly obtained his coffee cup, which he had thrown into a trash can at the Philadelphia airport. He was arrested on July 17 and cannot be released on bail. The motive is still unknown, the police are still investigating to clarify the details.
