Politics Gun laws and news around the world

Good post, it’s saddening that it took a complete Aussie jackass to actually push further gun control in a (correct me if I’m wrong Kiwis) relatively free country.

Even Americans are smarter than that. Thanks to the 2A though.

I don't know if the federalist is the most un biased source.
Heres what the house oversite committee publishes in regards to those issues

Oh yeah and Beto is an idiot

Your source simply states there is no evidence that Planned Parenthood “profits” from it’s “fetal tissue donation program”. I don’t know if that’s true or not but clearly they are killing a lot of healthy human babies. Ironic that the NRA is singled out as a terrorist organization by the left while the baby killers of the world get enthusiastic support and protection from the same people. You’re offended by the ad that spotlights that disgusting hypocrisy?

This is what Trump and AG Barr are trying to push Republicans to sign:

Not the most terrible laws I have to say, but I worry that the Democrats will try to abuse them.

Im not offended by it at all i just think its a dumb ad to run when your trying to gather support. it reminds me of getting in trouble as a kid and trying to use the "but so and so did some other thing" as a way to deflect.

As for NRA being declared a terrorist organisation that was San Francisco going full retard...... and you never go full retard.

I think the biggest problem we face these days is that we have all lost faith in our politicians and our media to tell us the truth without spin or out right b.s.

Link to this page is on the NZ nutter site that wants to ban 22's...

Police refuse to set gun buyback targets, extend deadline

Without targets, the Government will have a difficult task in defining whether the gun buyback is successful. Some say it’s impossible.

As predicted by ACT. They need to be honest about the real cost as well.
Current govt. loves theater and handing out tax money for all their failed projects.

After ‘assault weapons’; they go after semi-autos, after semi-autos; they go after manual action.

They will never stop.
Exactly. I remember when their primary firearm to hate/ban were the cheap Saturday Night Special revolvers. They will not stop until only criminals are armed. That seems to be their goal.

So the news broke that Colt was stopping their production of AR-15s and as predicated all the gun grabbers were celebrating:

Oh no, a gun manufacturer just folded, man the life boats!!

Except:

Gunmaker Colt Manufacturing said Thursday it is temporarily halting production of rifles for the civilian market, including the popular AR-15.

In a statement, Colt CEO Dennis Veilleux said the company is not permanently ending production of the semi-automatic weapon, but believes there is already an adequate supply of such rifles on the market.

"The fact of the matter is that over the last few years, the market for modern sporting rifles has experienced significant excess manufacturing capacity," Veilleux said.

Nobody wants to buy a $999.00 rifle when they can get one for $499.00 in a market flooded with cheap AR-15s.

Also, they have military + police contacts:

....and twitter idiots are praising Colt for their brave stand while politicians are sniffing their own farts.

Dumbasses.

Since no chance of Beto winning it is a prudent decision. They should actually fund his campaign via the old Ukraine Cyprus washing machine.

So Beto decided to do a Ask Me Anything on reddit and well...

Americans will comply with the law. It will be a mandatory buyback of AR-15 and AK-47s, weapons designed for war. Because we understand that theres no reason for a any of us to own a weapon that was designed to kill people on a battlefield. Especially when that kind of weapon is so often used to kill and terrorize people throughout this country — in their schools, in their grocery stores, in their churches, in their synagogues, at concerts... everywhere. I have met countless AR and AK owners who say they don’t need it to hunt, they don’t need it for self defense, it’s fun to shoot but would give it up. Because they also have kids and grandkids and want them to be safe.

It’s current at -12,100 points now, pretty high for a large left-leaning social media giant. Even Mainstream Media reported it:

Beto O’Rourke Gets a Roasting in Reddit Q&A (2:27 p.m.)
Beto O’Rourke went looking for upvotes on Reddit, but he ended up getting downvotes.
The Democratic presidential candidate signed up to answer users’ questions on one of the site’s popular “Ask Me Anything” forums, and it didn’t go well.
The questions are typically a mix of serious and offbeat, with a popular query being whether you’d rather fight 100 duck-sized horses or one horse-sized duck.
But O’Rourke instead faced harsh questions about why he’s not running for Senate, his proposal for a mandatory buyback of assault weapons and a drunk-driving arrest from 1998.
The former Texas congressman gamely answered some of the tougher questions, but his responses received thousands of downvotes -- a way that Reddit users signal disapproval. Many of the other upvoted questions that O’Rourke declined to answer centered on gun rights. -- Ryan Teague Beckwith

In Canada, the pope of feminism got caught wearing blackface and what does he do in response? Pledge to crack down on legal guns and owners:

Liberals promise to prohibit semi-automatic assault rifles, allow cities to ban handguns
Buyback program for quarter-million weapons could cost up to $600 million
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says a re-elected Liberal government would ban semi-automatic assault weapons and enable municipalities to restrict or prohibit handguns.

Trudeau made the announcement in Toronto's Greektown, the site of a deadly gun rampage last summer.

Faisal Hussain walked through the Danforth neighbourhood on July 22, 2018, shooting at people on the street, on patios and in restaurants.
The federal Liberals are being accused by their rivals of keeping voters in the dark about the cost of their campaign promises. While the Conservatives and New Democrats have had their platforms costed by the Parliamentary Budget Office and publicly released, the Liberals have so far neglected to release PBO estimates for the nearly $4 billion worth of campaign promises they've made so far.

The Liberal gun control platform also promises to:

  • Prevent people suspected of posing a danger to themselves or others, including their partners or children, from possessing or acquiring new firearms.
  • Require that everyone importing ammunition show proof of a valid firearms licence.
  • Strengthen safe-storage laws to make it harder for legal weapons to fall into the hands of criminals.
  • Not bring back the long-gun registry.

Having a valid firearms licence is already a requirement for buying or importing ammunition; the proposed new policy would require gun owners to actually show the licence when importing ammunition.

Toronto Mayor John Tory, whose city has been reeling from eruptions of gun violence, has been calling for a national handgun ban for more than a year, but in August he said he would be happy with a city-wide ban.

"It is a step in the right direction toward tougher gun control," he said Friday afternoon in response to the Liberal proposal.

Asked if he thinks Ontario Premier Doug Ford might try to block such a ban, Tory said the two politicians have a common interest in "saving lives."

He called on the next federal government to take action and make heavy investments to stop the smuggling of handguns from the U.S. into Canada.

Tony Bernardo, executive director of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association, said it is "disappointing but typical" for the Liberals to "attack" lawful firearms owners whenever they get into trouble.

"Canada's firearms community is the go-to whipping boy of the Liberal Party, guaranteed to deflect attention away from the latest Liberal scandals," he said in a statement to CBC.

"Trudeau's announcement raises more questions than answers. The Liberals have been unable to define what a military-style assault weapon is, or their role within crime.

"Trudeau's hyperbolic rhetoric is purely designed to whip up public sentiment against our community and deflect from his own electoral problems, despite the statistical evidence that firearms owners are the most law-abiding people in our country ... and apparently unrepresented by the Liberal Party of Canada."

Also the handgun used in that shooting belonged to a card-carrying gang member that acquired it across the border and the rest of the shootings in Canada are the result of gang feuds. Also, ain't it funny how the Liberal Government (which is in majority of power during the shooting) did not pledge to do this in the immediate aftermath but instead used it as campaign ammo now that Justin 'If you kill your enemies, they win' Trudeau got caught violating his super woke principles?

Same thing happened to Governor Blackface in Virginia.

Gangs are clearly more violent on these drugs. No crack down on gang membership except in Aussie. Its because they lost control of the streets and gangs have heirachy they think they can work with.

So I saw something very interesting while browsing Intel Fusion-Asia Twitter:

Over the past week in Israel, six people were shot to death; primarily in the Arab Israeli communities. Don’t know if it were terrorist attacks or gang warfare.

Despite being a first world stable regional power with the best surveillance and security systems around; illegal firearms are still acquired and used en masse.

Whelp, I've booked in to drop off my AR for destruction. Not happy about it, but it's too much hassle/risk not to. The Police have still not nominated authorised gunsmiths to modify firearms to make them legal and I only have until the 30th of this month to register it for destruction if I want to get compensation. And I'm going to use my Jacinda-bucks to buy something waaay more lethal anything - f*** you horseface.

I'm glad I live in Iowa...it is very simple to get a carry permit in Iowa. Just have to pass the background check...no felonies or any sort of domestic violence. On Saturday we went to a new super-store here called "Farm & Fleet". They have stores in Wisconsin, Iowa,Minnesota I one in South Dakota. They have a lot of outdoors type stuff, hunting gear etc..and many many guns. Mostly hand guns and shot guns. I decide to count how many persons I saw with a weapon strapped on their person. I saw three in the gigantic parking lot and I don't know how many in the store..I lost count. Over a dozen easy. A lot of guys have taken to carrying in a holster that looks like a cell phone case...nice;

Just in case you wanted to know;

Second Bill Begins

Yesterday the Second Arms Amendment Bill of 2019 entered Parliament. Its problems are many. In no particular order: It is morally and practically wrongheaded. It punishes the law abiding for the sins of the criminal. It undermines the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship. It promises what could only be an impractical and ineffective register. It places regulatory obligations on clubs that will undermine the community support so essential for safe firearm use. It is being done before the Royal Commission into what actually went wrong reports back. A video of ACT’s contribution to the Parliamentary debate can be seen here.

What Happens Next?

The bill will be referred to the Finance and Expenditure Committee, a select committee whose job it is to consult the public on the bill. It is due to report back to Parliament by February 10 next year. The Select Committee will call for public submissions to be made later this week, setting a date by when they have to be in, probably by late October. We will send more details as soon as they become clear.

What You Can Do

We understand organisations such as COLFO will be putting in high quality submissions to the Select Committee. You also have the right to make your own submission. We will be giving advice for people who wish to make their own submission, and or appear before the Committee in person. Be under no illusion that any one submission is going to change the outcome, but a large number of personalized submissions can have an impact on how the issue is portrayed.

I Haven't Betrayed Licensed Firearm Users -Winston Peters

David Seymour thought he had Winston cornered in question time. Standing in as Acting Prime Minister, Winston Peters had to defend Jacinda Ardern’s statements on Firearms. Unfortunately Seymour underestimated how hard it is to embarrass Peters. Peters relished saying the “buy back” is going fine, even though he agreed the Government had "no idea" how many firearms there were. He went on to say the Government is now fixing up decades of bad firearm laws, seeming to forget he’s been in parliament for decades himself. He finished off by denying Licensed Firearm Users feel betrayed by the Government. If you can bear it, the full exchange is available here.

And the Nats...

Why not have a bob each way? The Nats aren’t opposed to the legislation in general or a register in particular. So long as they’re part of the process, they’ll support more laws. The objective should be to resist further restrictions in general and restore the E-Category. National’s Nick Smith said in Parliament that New Zealand First are ‘ambidextrous’ when it comes to Firearm laws. Sadly Nick doesn't do irony.

Richard Prosser Endorses ACT

Considering some of the animosity between ACT, NZ First, and Richard Prosser in the past, we have to take our hat off to Richard Prosser. He's done an analysis of next year's election from the point of view of LAFO's and says he's voting ACT. His blog post is worth a read.

Party Membership

Richard also laments the decline in party membership, urging people to join up. It may be a coincidence but ACT had a medium sized spike in new sign ups when his blog post was published. If you haven't joined ACT as a financial member, please consider joining here.

Some good news for your Aussies:

Hunting contributes $2.4 billion to national economy, report finds
Australia's hunters and shooters contributed $2.4 billion to the economy last year, according to a report commissioned by the Department of Health.
Compiled by RG Consulting Group, the report said the benefits included $800 million in direct spending and $1.6 billion in flow-on economic activity.
It said if hunting was prohibited, some expenditure would be redirected to similar activities "such as camping, fishing, four-wheel driving", but that recreational hunting made a net contribution of $335 million and added 3,300 jobs last year.
Opponents of hunting have questioned the data, collected through an online survey of more than 16,000 hunters which formed the basis of the report, along with information from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Victorian Game Management Authority.
The report said there were more than 640,000 recreational hunters and shooters using firearms, knives, or bows to hunt game and pests and to shoot targets.

It also said hunters engaged in more physical activity and had "higher levels of wellbeing" when compared to the general population.
More than 95 per cent of the survey respondents were male and there was an "even balance between living in regional and metropolitan areas", with most hunters aged 30 to 74.
Barry Howlett from the Australian Deer Association said the report showed hunting was serious contributor to the national economy.
"That $335 million [net economic spend], that's about half the current budget deficit is for Australia," he said.
"It's more than our export pork industry, it's more than our live sheep export industry.
"It's a significant amount of money."
He said he was not surprised by the findings that hunters had "higher physical activity" and "higher levels of wellbeing" when compared to the general population.
"There's big mental health benefits to hunting … we put that down to the community aspect," Mr Howlett said.

Hopefully, this will help with the stigma Urban Australians have in regards to hunting and guns....or maybe not.

'Lost opportunity': Guns talks cease amid impeachment push
It had been five days since Chris Murphy had heard from the Trump administration on negotiations over expanding background checks on gun sales. On the sixth day, the Connecticut Democrat endorsed an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.

The move sealed what many of Murphy’s colleagues had long suspected: That gun negotiations have fallen apart and may be impossible to resurrect now that the vast majority of House Democrats and a growing minority of Democratic senators are now calling for the president’s impeachment. The prospect of cutting a deal with the president that was at odds with the NRA was always a long-shot, but now it seems downright implausible for Trump to negotiate on guns with Democrats seeking to oust him from office.

I think Trump orchestrated this whole thing.

The impeachment inquiry over the Ukraine talks transcript has caused nothing but Trump's support base to rally around him and allows him a way to wiggle out of passing more gun laws to avoid pissing off more gun owners. Doubly so, since the transcript (which an anon whistler claimed was extremely damaging) has revealed nothing of importance and now Democrats are starting to backpedal their impeachment calls.

Very clever Mr. President, shame you couldn't use the same tactic to advance gun rights.

U.S. veteran wins challenge against Housing Authority gun ban
The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) has reached a settlement with the Housing Authority of the City of Menomonie after it challenged the agency’s lease provision banning its residents from keeping firearms in their homes.

On behalf of Tom Chapin, a U.S. veteran, gun-owner, and resident of the Housing Authority of the City of Menomonie, WILL argued the lease provision violates the Second Amendment.

The authority prohibited Chapin from keeping firearms in his own home, forcing him to pay for safe storage of his legal firearms off site, or find a new place to live.
