Politics BLM protests across the US

I'm genuinely confused - there was still segregation in the States in 1977?!?
@Gaz I hope your sitting down, there is still segregation in UK schools. And within some of these schools, they have tried to segregate boys from girls, due to religious beliefs.

But they're private schools, surely? Not State run schools?

oh no, that's legal, you can operate a fee paying school, for all boys, or all girls. State schools must be mixed. some state schools try to separate boys and girls for some or all lessons.

This thread is a shitshow. I thought this was a military based photo forum?

It (still) is, with some painful political discussion at times. I believe that the topic needs to be discussed, and most replies are (mostly) fine so far, considering such a topic despite some complaints we have gotten.

We will see where this goes; probably until Chauvin’s trial. Personally I wouldn’t really want it to become some megathread about any Joe that got killed at the hands of police officer, but unfortunately it’s too important a topic to be completely ignored.

If it were my trainset I'd bar all politic chatter. Causes too much trouble. No politics or religion in the bar....

^^ Is this what I've heard referred to on TV and movies as 'bussing'?

Bussing was not a "clear cut" form of segregation, rather a soft/indirect/under-handed form social segregation based on urbanism.

This section is under world POLITICS...... Who is forcing you to read this thread?

Well you're right, no one does.

I come to this website for military photos, mil discussion and a bit of lighthearted fun. Somewhere to escape the shitshow of the modern world I guess, but I realise other people come for other things.

My fear is simply that too much political chat will kill the forum, seen it happen before that's all.

YMMV.

You still have the military photos and military discussion, this site is has many sections.

This section happens to be about politics, you can still enjoy what you want.

FYI, there is also a humor section, and a food thread titled "hungry boy recipes", not really military per se, but it's available.

Don't fear political chat, it will not kill this forum, as long as some people can keep from complaining just because they hear others voice opinions they don't approve of or agree with.

This is one section of this forum dedicated to politics, not everyone's "cup of tea".... now take it or leave it is my opinion.

just my .02

So, so far we have: Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Matthias Baldwin, Gandhi, De Gaulle, Otto von Bismarck, Churchill, Indro Montanelli, Robert the Bruce, Robert Baden-Powell, António Vieira. And probably many others...

Compared to the flame wars on mp.net this is a play group in a Montessori kindergarten!!!
I really liked mp.net. huge amount of very interesting discussions about many things, with info I would never have gotten from regular news here. I learned quite a bit there, and wish there was another forum similar to mp.net.

We'll see. In a years time if the forums ticking over at the same rate I'll happily be proven wrong.

I swear, I'm not your enemy and if I were around you I'd give you a hug.

Macron says France won't remove statues, erase history

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday fighting racism should not lead to a “hateful” re-writing of history following worldwide protests over the killing of George Floyd, a black man, by a police officer in the United States.

Some protesters in the United States and elsewhere have targeted statues of historic figures associated with slavery or other past human rights abuses.

“I will be very clear tonight, compatriots: the Republic won’t erase any name from its history. It will forget none of its artworks, it won’t take down statues,” he said in a televised address to the nation.
