Politics Chaotic scenes as HK protests turns violent

Love how you guy lambast China, but go all but hurt when the accusations thrown back to your countries... it's simple, if you cant take it, dont dish it. Cause history is brutal on the west, remember that when you act aghast at what China is doing.

I'm not so sure you'd be so happy to live in China under the CCP as you think.

A friend of mine is setting in Hong Kong as his company is opening their Asia offices. He knows China well, lived there 25 years ago, and was impressed to see what China has become: trains, Electric cars, 5g network... He was unfavorably suprised by the level of censorship on the Web though... says it makes it very hard to work even.

As for Hong Kong, all this started it seems with a law on extradition drafted because a Hong Kong citizen murdered a girl in Taïwan and the Taiwanese were upset the dude could'nt be extradited with current HK law. Then the chinese overlords knocked on Carrie Lam's door reminding her Taïwan is China?.

Coms with a few of my Mainland classmates is quite difficult at times.

Although a guy I recommended from Tencent for acceptance into the same school doesn’t have a problem with coms.

As far as what kicked this off, it’s certainly not just a single extradition case between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

That would be disingenuous.

Let’s not forget the issue of 5 employees at Causeway Bay Books being disappeared, all in late 2015.

Disappeared for selling some books. Books.

Who knew a few books were such a threat to PLA/CCP existence?

——-

I most certainly “get” that the CCP/PLA would like to once again(1989 Tiananmen) avoid falling into a multi-decade abyss of chaos as suffered by the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact with the collapse of authoritarian communism.

Russia lost a decade+ of relative development and a decade+ of life expectancy after the fall. And that’s being overly generous.

But the world is becoming increasingly aware of the very real risk of China exporting its brand of techno authoritarianism.

Aware...and concerned....with very good reason.

This is how the CCP works

VW, for example, was forced to build a factory in Xinjiang. People disappaering or being sentenced to life like Ilham Tohti.

I know ist not HK but it shows what they have to expect.

Not in line? Locked away.

This post from Michael Yon today, who has been posting from HK.

United States: We finally are crushing -- quickly -- the worst communist monster ever to plague our Earth, yet many Americans are focused on impeaching the primary mover on the battlefield: President Trump
I've never liked President Trump but he is winning. Smashing Chinese Communist Party. Chainsaw massacre in Beijing. We are finally dismantling this beast.
And yet the House of Representatives is hyper focused on killing our chances of subduing the criminals who have killed Tibetans for generations, send Muslims to concentration camps, use Christians and Falun Gong as living organ donors, threaten most of the world, take advantage of the greed of uneducated NBA players, threaten to invade Taiwan and Hong Kong -- and we finally are beating them.
We clearly are damaging and bleeding CCP far faster than their replenishment capacity.
Yet some of our government members are behaving morally criminally to stop this. Bald power grab.
Remember the two vital ingredients for hate:
Anger + Disgust --> Hate
They are creating hatred to target their opponents, and in doing so are created hatred against themselves. Hatred has a magical way or splashing back on those who create and splash it around.
Do they want civil war?
This is our chance to destroy CCP and they are focusing on President Trump.

See, Michael Yon... really? Crushing the worst communist monster ever? That guy is just click bait and pandering to the ill informed. China instead of being crushed is making a faster headway than most in expanding their influence. From South East Asia to Africa. What happened in Hong Kong is being made into something big by the west, when reality its just dissent and would be a non issue down the road. Here's a hint on how impactful it was, China didnt do much about it.

A bunch of ragheads in their northern provinces are far more a worry for China than what happened in Hong Kong.

Well...a year ago China's attitude when being confronted by Trump on their economic practices was along the lines of, "How dare you even think of looking at us askance, we will destroy you". Ummm, guess not. By any measure available, they are losing this trade war and in a BIG way, their economy and markets are dropping, companies are leaving China and the supply and manufacturing chain are changing before our eyes. Oh and BTW, if they don't buy US farm products, they know that people will starve.

The same attitude remains, what are you talking about? So far both economies are getting hurt. How many companies are leaving China compared to coming in? If they dont buy from the US farmers, South America wins.

The US economy is far from hurting, it is literally on fire with record numbers in every sector. The Chinese are being hurt badly by the sanctions and that's undeniable. And South American Farmers cannot possibly supply enough food to China, to keep people from starving.

Also, Jim Cramer. And note where he works.

Basically Cramer is saying, that the trade war is literally won. Don't even negotiate any more.

It´s in the article, China is no longer a low cost country and always was a complicated place to do business.

China is simply a country going through the transition from low cost country to middle cost country. Same happened to Japan and Korea. Those LG refrigerators are´nt going to be produced in the US anytime soon for the same reason.

Add to all that a real estate bubble and you have the main reasons why things are not going as fast as they were.

Did the trade war hurt China... yes. Is it going to collapse economically, nope. What's going to happen is the Chinee ill be forced to look for more trading partners elsewhere and you see it now with China having a more ASEAN focus and its rive for the Silk road. In the end the Chinese economy ill be more resilient and less reliant on America.

As for them starving, the main agricultural product they get from you guys is Soybeans like 50% of all imports... aint nobody starving cause of a lack of soybeans.

And the other island just made bank... Hong Kong will realize down the road ho the screwed up. everybody forgot that there as Macau lol

Taiwan rejects closer ties with China in landslide election.
