Politics Gun laws and news around the world

Fully agree, Russia has better gun laws than copycat EU UK NZ Australia Canada.... notice how the anti gun lobby voice disappeared immediately after they take semi auto loading rifles away. Not one peep in the news out of those useful idiots since the ban here after they assisted the police/taxcinder state confiscation. Yet their goal according to their spokesperson was to remove pactically everything down to blow pipes.

Some sign of respect that firearm license holders are actually responsible citizens instead of feared and loathed, the present main opposition leader Judith Collins openly announced she would reverse and pull the plug on the current firearm registration should she be elected.
The exodus of firearm holder votes from her party and NZ First notably reflects both parties poor polling ratings. According the these ratings NZ First is no longer and a cheeky but possibly correct reporter had the temerity to suggest it was the end of the road for Collin's National while Act that did not support any of the contrived gun law is simply flourishing in the polls.
We will actually without doubt elect an Actual firearm owner representative shortly.

NZ you have to apply for a permit to buy sling swivels , optic , mounts and anything that attaches to a firearm

"Parts

There is a new definition for ‘part’. Anything that attaches to a firearm is now considered a part and requires a permit to import. This includes integral parts of the firearm, such as barrels and trigger group parts, as well as other items like scopes, sights, butt plates and slings, that attach to a firearm but are not integral to their use."

This is as pathetic as law can get. The superstitious nature of the police/govt state isn't unlike that of some religious cult.

They failed to properly write the previous law and it was technically inept at banning semi-auto firearms with the dreaded pistol grip. The judge Thorpe that produced the theory that Rambo styled firearms had a psychotic effect on owners was the basis of that one. Well apparently they have gone over-board with any one of a material that can be connected to any one of a firearm by their definition requires their permission..

Fill out the form and totter off to the police station , perhaps it is open or some-one is there, perhaps you had to travel an hour or more if living in a remote place. Just to order some innocuous, inherently not dangerous part by any stretch of an ordinary person's imagination.

The Royal Commission report on Christchurch shooting has been delivered. Predictably won't be published by Taxcinders lot until the distractive summer holiday period.. Apparently it is lengthy.

They made some nice rifles, I hope they make one of those famous back from bankrupt US tales.

Montana Outdoor Group Shutters Montana Rifle Company

Montana Outdoor Group, a private investor group that acquired Montana Rifle Company in early 2019, has closed the company's doors pending fiscal restructuring.

“While sales of our popular calibers have been outstanding, production levels have not risen to a profitable level to continue, without additional investments,” CEO Calvin Bontrager explained. “New equipment would be required to reach a service level demanded by our dealers and conservation groups." Bontrager continued, “With sales of the popular M1999 control feed actions nearly doubling in 2019, Montana Outdoor Group is actively searching for restructuring opportunities."

Montana Rifle has been producing custom-grade rifles for nearly 25 years, and was awarded the Friends of the NRA “NRA’s Gun of the Year” in 2016 and 2018. Montana Rifle has also produced limited editions for California Waterfowl, SCI, RMEF and many other conservation organizations.

The Commission has been looking into the attacks since April last year, investigating whether state agencies like the police and the security intelligence service could have prevented the shootings.

The Commission's report will be released on the 8th of December. It's expected to detail any failings by government organisations leading up to the mosque attacks, including how the terrorist was able to obtain a licence for semi-automatic firearms.

Commissioners say a lengthy suppression of the full evidence is necessary to avoid inspiring future attacks. The transcript of the interview with the attacker Brenton Tarrant will not be released.

Commissioners Sir William Young and Jacqui Caine said “full publication of the evidence could provide a "how-to manual for future terrorists" and expected that after 30 years those fears would likely have "dissipated”.

Confidentiality was also a reason for the suppression of evidence, with commissioners saying the people they spoke to were advised the process was “private”.

"We told them that our process was private and that we would not publish in our report what they told us without first going back to them."

"We did this with a view to encouraging candour, which we received."

The Islamic Women's Council is concerned the suppression could lead to a lack of proper accountability.

"Also, for past ministers of the Crown who are included in that, there is no accountability for them unless the report itself contains sufficient evidence and submissions that recounts any failings, negligence, incompetence on their part," national coordinator Anjum Rahman told the NZ Herald.

ACT Justice and Firearms Law Reform spokesperson Nicole McKee said in a statement today that the move to suppress the evidence is “disturbing”.

“Firstly, this was not the impression given in statements from the Commission in recent days, which noted that only some information would be withheld to protect national security,” she said.

“While the Commission said a small number of senior Ministers past and present and senior public servants would not be at liberty to discuss their interviews because of confidentiality orders, it is surprising to learn that this stretches to complete suppression of their evidence.
“In fact, much was made of the Commission’s statement that the report had been written in a way that it could ‘be made available to the public, in full, without the need for redaction.’" McKee said ACT believes all evidence other than “that which might prejudice national security, or which could risk the safety of individuals involved in processes that arguably led to the foreign terrorist being able to undertake his attacks, should be made public".

“That is the standard of disclosure expected under the Official Information Act and the public should receive nothing less in this case."

“Just because the Inquiries Act allows the Government to do this doesn’t mean it should,” McKee said.

“The enormity of the events of 15 March 2019 and the need for the public to have trust in our institutions so that a similar violent act will never be repeated, is a valid case for the very highest levels of transparency."

“ACT is concerned questions will now linger over whether lessons will be properly learned because pertinent information is being withheld."

McKee as usual is perfectly astute.

"A how to manual"? Do they honestly think someone who plans to do something similar needs a manual or they won't be able to get it done? 30years of hiding goverment failings is what it sounds like to me...

Quite bizarrely on the progressive express TVNZ news one rare reporter had the temerity to suggest the gun laws that trash bought in would not have occurred had the Aussie been properly denied a license.

Brace for it. Report due out tomorrow.
Snow flake reporter went off on a tangent claiming NZ must change its race relations. But hey. We were at the very top country for Muslim assimilation in the world.
It was a foreigner that carried out the attack.
The reporting from progressive express is bewildering.
