Politics The COVID-19 pandemic news and discussion.

Got to love conspiracy theories
There will be a shortage of tin given the amount of BS spread about this pandemic ....

Could you share, if you have found some interesting ones?

Local media here doesn't write much about this.

I heard Anthony Fauci MD interviewed, he's head of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at NIH and world renowned expert on viral contagion. He clearly stated the mortality rate now from Corona is only 2%. That really sucks if you're in that 2% of course. Also that the smoking rate in China is 60%. That, coupled with poor air quality = damaged lungs which is a bad thing for a respiratory virus. One big concern he had was asymptomatic transmission. Not cool.

When there isn't transparency, conspiracy theories develop. I think it safe to say, that none of us have all the facts.

Occam Razor
The new Coronavirus is not a bioweapon (neither chinese or US one)
It is not a leak from a nearby L4 biohazard lab
And you cannot burn enough people to generate an increase of CO2 without the relatives noticing the fact.
Plus Chinese cities are notorious for their air pollution, especially in winter and newsflash we are in winter. A lot of people in China are using wood or coal furnaces to heat themselves. They are stranded at home and need to heat themselvers (it is no overly cold but it can go down at -2/-3°C during the night)

Interesting what about agricultural farms in the region. They must have a lot of industrial scale chiken\pigs\cows farms to feed such amount of people there. Did they some tests to be sure animals not infected or just kill them all at this point?

Currently the priority is the human reservoir. It is not even sure that the bug passes on other animals (yet it is a possibility)

Im in Japan right but theybare in quiet panic. All the masksbare gone. No cruise ships are able to come in. Corona virus in the news, but so far the "no chinese sign" is not yet up

Yes I just love these "X has more deaths in total/year than Y, so X is more dangerous than Y" arguments in media where they don't take into account how much time people spend with each.

With that logic you end up concluding that lighting up a dynamite between your teeth or getting hit by lightning is less dangerous than sleeping.

How about coronary disease and car accidents, anyone seen them brought up yet?
Well, I'd argue that inevitability is the crux of the matter. For example, I loathe the often-touted argument I shouldn't worry about terrorism because I'm way more likely to die in a car accident. But there are risks we have to shoulder simply by virtue of being alive. Falling sick is one of them, and quite frankly, statistically speaking the worst experience that most patients with 2019-nCoV are going to make is being forced into quarantine.

Currently, the virus has a lethality of approx. 2.5 percent. Or in other words: a survival rate of 97.5 percent. In contrast, ordinary influenza has (depending on the strain and year) a lethality of between 0.5 and 6 percent.

The one thing this media panic is good for is to create a willingness to help and professional (i.e. scientific) attention. For instance, the academic publisher Springer made its entire medical catalogue available for free for scientists who want to research the Coronavirus.

One explanation given to explain the high amount of SO2 in the air is: used and contaminated medical supplies being disposed of and cremated.

According to the Russian Prime Time news segment on a Federal TV channel, Coronavirus is a brain child of Donald Trump, and it's named corona (i.e. crown) because he owned "Miss Universe" pageant. All of this is a ploy to keep People's Republic of China down and more agreeable during trade negotiations.

Surely its Hilary, as a neoconservative, trying to oust the Russian puppet, and take over the world, so she can leave Chelsea in charge, in lifelong Clintonism.

I know its really wrong, but we have 120 ish staff - so the four mangers of the various groups have got a sweep stake running on which 3 are going to succumb.
It falls into two categories those 3 you want to and those 3 who will probably
Sad thing is I had swine flu really bad a few years ago - so I will be happy once I have had this one and its gone

Straight out nastiness and abuse will not be tolerated by me or any other mod. Disagree with the post but don't play the man....Clean you act up or take a break
