EU Asks All EU-Based Airlines To Avoid Belarusian Airspace After Forced Landing

The EU also asked the European Council to begin the process of banning Belarusian airlines from flying over EU airspace or landing in its airports a move that will effectively block the country's air connections to Western Europe. Belarus is not a member of the European Union.

The United Kingdom and France imposed flight bans

Due to the decision of the British and French governments, we are forced to cancel flights to London and Paris from May 25 to October 30, 2021.
We are saddened by the current situation, which we cannot change. We apologize to our passengers. Passengers can refund the full price of tickets without penalties or they can change the departure date during the validity of the ticket*. To do this, you must contact the place of purchase of tickets.
* 1 year from the date of purchase for fully used tickets, 1 year from the date of starting the use of partially used tickets.

What could anyone do, though? The damage has been done. No amount of sanctions is going to bring Lukashenko to heel. And no one is going to suggest a more drastic course of action over one person.

Worse has been forgiven when it's diplomatically or economically convenient. Just think of the Kashoggi murder and the actions which more resolute a president than Biden didn't take.

Having said that, I'm surprised Protasevich ever saw fit to even board that plane. What was he intending to do in the event of a genuine emergency landing?
I think Ireland should buy 2 of those Israeli drone missiles, and destroy the mig29 that went up. Might get the message home.

the point about him taking that flight is valid, he should have gone via Berlin, or Amsterdam.

Do you love double standards and holier than you narrative?
I gave an explanation as to why I think the two incidents are not comparable in the slightest.

Just use a few Ryanair planes - preferably one with Michael O'Leary on it to crash into the airport

Agreed should not have flown over their airspace - not the brightest button in the box - its like he wanted to get caught

Curious you'd quote an article by the Guardian of all joints to prove your point. Anyways … that incident's been mentioned a couple of times as of late. I don't quite see the parallels.

Morales' aircraft was denied flyover rights – similar has happened in abundance in the past. Russia, for instance, has regularly prevented foreign heads of state from flying to Afghanistan across Russian territory.

His aircraft wasn't forced to land by fighter jets. The bird just didn't have enough gas to stay airborne whilst the diplomats were working behind the scenes.

Acting on an international arrest warrant, Austria then asked to be given permission to search the plane for Snowden, was denied said permission and the whole affair eventually vanished into thin air.

What they did on Washington's behest was not okay, but not nearly comparable to Protasevich's arrest. Morales' aircraft wasn't coaxed down to the ground by the military, and Protasevich is no Edward Snowden. Like it or not, Snowden violated a constitutional law that is fundamentally apolitical.

This post can be tldr; summarized as scraping the barrel to prove Belarus is wrongerererer. Which is always convenient.

Anyway. I find the whole situation hilarious. Especially what ensued: https://www.rt.com/sport/524741-iihf-latvia-belarus-flag-row/

Latvia: We will decide what flag Belarus should be allowed to fly.
Hockey fed: Wait a minute, you're not allowed to do that.
Latvia: Shut up or we will decide your flag too!

Balts still busy fighting political Paralympics given as their whole Tikhanovskaya affair went tits up. Zero knowledge of political ethics, zero strategic thinking, led by political monkeys supported by mentally impaired foreign powers.

TUT.BY: Independent Belarus media website blocked after series of raids
The website of Belarus' leading independent media outlet, TUT.BY, has been blocked by authorities after a series of raids.

Editors of the channel reported on Tuesday that their offices were searched by agents of the Belarusian Financial Investigation Department (DFR).

Marina Zolotova said officials had raided her office, her home, and the homes of journalists. At least six employees were taken in for questioning, the Belarusian Association of Journalists said.

"The co-founder of TUT.BY Kirill Voloshin announces that the portal's domain has been blocked," the organisation said on social media.

"A criminal case has been initiated against TUT.BY by the DFR," the outlet added. The independent news website remained inaccessible in Belarus and abroad on Tuesday evening.

#NoPasaran!

France biatchlisted a Belavia plane, so it could not enter the Polish airspace.

Flight radar was showing the plane dancing next to the Polish border, but it eventually returned to its home airport.

In the meantime, Luka said the forced landing was legit, as there were terrorists onboard and he got a warning about it from servers using Polish IPs.

That guy is really mentally ill.

European companies began to fly around Belarus. to the north through the Balts.
The Chinese, other Asians and Russians fly as before through Minsk.
Together with them US cargo planes continue to fly quietly there.
Ukraine has taken an interesting double standard position canceling flights to Belarus, but ... tactfully did not join the initiative of the Baltic states and Poland not to let Belarusian planes enter their territory. As a result, Belavia flies to Turkey via Ukraine as usual.

Passengers flying to western countries are mostly Belarusian dissidents so blocking them they do Lukashenko's job, also forcing extra costs on European airlines while the industry trying post-covid recovery looks like shooting own feet again. That's what happens when ideology takes over pragmatism.

Polish journalists say Belavia makes up 2-3% of the Belarusian GDP, so your comment is a nonsense. They will be phucked much more and by generating such a big percentage of the GDP, it's extremely unlikely that they earn this money focusing on carrying dissidents.

Corrected ;)

Belavia is still flying and Belarus sky is still open and Lukashenka is not woke despite of EU ideologists comical song and dance.

Just take a look at Belavias routes. Without having any deep insights it seems obvious they make about 50 % in EU / UK travel.
