In a situation where the US is prepared to force the Iranians to go to war those hours wouldn't have been spent evacuating, they would have been spent destroying launch sites before they ever got a shot off with TLAMs, stealth aircraft and technology that isn't yet public knowledge. The US chose to have the strike take place so the Iranians could save face.

If the US had responded the Iranians wouldn't have had the same luxury.

In a situation where Iran detects the Americans making preparations for such an attack, which would definitely be noticed by Iran's intelligence agencies and armed forces, all of US' bases would be flattened within hours by the IRGC-ASF. Good luck trying to keep those stealth aircrafts to take off when there is no runway intact in the wider region. At the same time, American warships and carriers wouldn't come within the range of Iran's anti-ship cruise missiles, anti-ship ballistic missiles and loitering munition/kamikaze drones that will skim the entire area around the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean within a range of at least 2000 kilometers.

I don't think you and others here realise the amount of firepower Iran has assembled over the past decades. Its missile force alone could strike every American base in the Middle East with pin-point accuracy; it could decide to bomb Israel back to the stone age by flatten its entire infrastructure only by activating Hezbollah's missile units; it could instantly take down Emirati and Saudi energy infrastructure in a similar fashion; it could strike all oil and gas fields held by US' allies in the region which would cause a meltdown to the global economy.

There is a reason why Iran is the only country that has successfully defied American interests and gets away with it; it's a nation that is simply too big, too strong and too deadly for the US. You see, the US is that kind of bully that only dares to mess with the weak. And even against these weaker actors, the US has only come across defeat. Against Iran though, if it ever comes down to that, it will result in its demise.
