Politics China/Taiwan Crisis

As that quote from a movie "Every once in a while, the lion needs to show the Jackals who he is." A lot of the hate I see are from the West. Over here the US just did a power move and is what its allies over here have been waiting for America to do. The Biden administration just showed Asians it had bigger balls than previous administrations. Last time this happened was in 1995 under Bill Clinton another democrat.

FYI Pelosi's escort was over 20 planes strong along with prepositioned assets. It wasnt a message being delivered to the PRC, it was a challenge

China has warned airlines operating in Asia not to fly near Taiwan, where military exercises are being held in response to the visit of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Jang Chang Seog, an official at the Korean transport ministry, said an official notice was sent out late Tuesday evening Hong Kong time designating six parts of the airspace as a "danger zone". As a result, flights will be restricted from 12 noon on August 4 to 12 noon on August 7.

aka
. Comrade Pooh is not doing too well in his preparations for re-election. It's a good opportunity for him, in the old dictator's fashion, to deflect attention from the F***-ups of recent years with some sword-rattling.

after the pub bully threatens to beat up everyone in the g.cibe and the six-foot bouncer stands up. The guy stomps off and starts kicking the garbage can outside while four sheriffs (carrier battle group ) look on silently, hands on guns.

hmm... it must be disturbing for you that an old chick weighing 50 kilos has bigger balls than your icon.
Who, by the way, just happened to have Putin (and Beijing) on a leash
A video of the meeting between the Hungarian Prime Minister and the former US President was published on Viktor Orbán's Facebook page. The Tuesday meeting took place at Donald Trump's Bedminster, New Jersey estate, and was attended by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, Balázs Orbán, the Prime Minister's Political Director, Zsolt Németh, Chairman of the Hungarian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Susie Wiles, Save America Director, Brian Jack, Advisor and Taylor Budowich, Save America Communications Director

Pelosi's trip to Taiwan may very well be an attempt at trying to see "who blinks first" with China, but apart from that there is nothing to achieve for her or the US vis-à-vis Taiwan.

Pelosi's track-record is dismal, nothing but symbolic measures have been barely taken (none of her bills were able to pass the Senate) and she only remains in office in her district because of how heavily gerrymandered the area is.

Pelosi's trip has nothing to do with the betterment of Taiwan especially since Kirby himself reiterated the US didn't support Taiwan's independence. Securing new chip markets for the US is more likely.

So, sorry to disappoint you mate, but perhaps you should try to keep off her breasts, alcohol poisoning is a bad thing so I heard.

"Balls" wise, I would say Trump initiating peace talks between South and North Korea was ballsy, managing to pull out the Abraham Accords was pretty ballsy.

Also, "my icon"? Who is that supposed to be?
And what has your diatribe about Orban anything to do with anything in the conversation?

Yes but it was Newt Gingrich travelling, a Republican. He also travelled to mainland China and China had agreed on his visit to Taiwan back then.

This visit is the slap in the face the Chinese deserved.

I wonder if they are indicating that they have the same size dangly bits.

His assertion remains correct though.
Actually the implication of Pelosi's trip to Taiwan has bigger implications in the whole area than just that one country. The US is selling its version of the Belt and Drive initiative, but for so long gives off the feeling that Asia is not America's main concern. To the point that Japan and other nations have started re thinking Americas commitment to the region. There was a lot of speeches but not much action materializing on the ground.

Yesterday's action was a bold challenge to China and it blinked. The US remains the big sheriff and everybody will follow suit accordingly. Ensuring that peace will remain for a while. This was an action that the region was looking for and the US just served it.

Trumps action cartoonish visit with NOKOR was just that a cartoon. Most considers Trumps visit as a failure.

I meant the Carrier Battle Group in the Tawanese strat during the tension between the two countries. not the Newt Gingrich visit

Aaaaand she's gone.

now China is brainstorming whether their fighter jets can do what they have shown on youtube and China Pravda

So, now that Nancy left Taiwan after doing whatever she went there for (which might not have been "that important" considering how brief her stay in Taiwan was) the live-fire military exercises announced by Chinese state media will carry on. Gravely and unambiguously escalatory and dangerous steps. Or maybe that's ballsy...?

If they take place as announced, they will reach quite significantly into Taiwan's internal waters (which is about 10 or 12 ni from the shores) and clearly disregard Taiwan's territorial waters.

Well, China drew the lines. Will they be crossed is left to be seen, but China has done worst in the past.

These are the most provocative moves by China in decades and would meet the UN's definition of "state aggression", though Taiwan isn't part of the UN, but the definition is pretty much, let's say, "agnostic" or "blind" as to whom it may apply.

Anyway, "ballsy Pelosi" went for her trip, landed in Taiwan despite the US military and her advisors telling her not to. Maybe a political move to boost the votes prior to the midterms "oh hey! look! we are tough on China! we got told not to go and we went anyway!" *jingle keys*.
Thing is, it seems Pelosi thought it was 1996 all over again. With the difference that back in 1996 China had no concerning AShM capabilities, they reportedly do now. Back in 1966 China's nuclear capabilities were, let's say, cute; not so much as of today. (27 years of uninterrupted military spending at an estimated US$297/y)

So yeah, "ballsy Nancy" showed the US playbook, while the US does not know what the Chinese's is. The Dems set the bar on a trajectory no prior administration ever dared. One thing is clear though, it stocked up Chinese nationalism to the point of breaking government-run social media, and even some prominent Chinese communist leaders/activists got arrested for getting too hyped (calling for protesting to push the Chinese gov to go on with the "One China" thing).
It's also an election year in China and Xi is seeking to remain in power for life. Which means he is going to have to woo the nationalists and get their support.

Ballsy, demented and alcoholic, Nancy contributed in setting a stage for a mistake to happen and escalate out of control.

Hypothesis: if China does invade Taiwan (after all Russia did invade Ukraine, why China wouldn't do the same). What is the US going to do about it?
8000 miles away? Well, there are three Battle groups in the area, so there is that.

So basically China is now talking S**t, when the big guy has left the room. The huffing and puffing is now there to make much ado about nothing. China already showed its cards and the rest of the players in the area are laughing.

I think the cause is more complex X showed Y who's boss.

From a PR point of view it's a win for Taiwan and Pelosi (I don't want to equate the attention whore to the US)

From a strategic point of view it's a US win, having shown that China will blink when the US is involved.

From a tactical / operative point of view PRC might turn it in their favor, slowly letting these "excercises" creep into some repetitive routine over the next years - time will tell. Having this as a routine would lower warning times pre invasion and give China more of a first mover advantage.

Economic impact remains to be seen and will depend on how the parties react on the military exercises of PRC
