But once the 'sustained protest movement' gets into power - sounds as if this wont include those boring old notions of elections[Hitler was elected...] - wont they become the 'corporate establishment' and then the 'sustained protest movement' will need to continue protesting to get themselves out...…..

Get Rid of the Police appears to be a nationalized movement, not just local concerned citizens. Movie stars are suddenly signing up for it too.
Now it makes sense that Obama called for Direct Action again...
WHO will replace the police? Why, a group organized by "local concerned citizens" organizations... WHO is that, well.... the same people in charge of so many of these Democrat-controlled cities and State governments.
Who will be the organized groups? My bet is on Obama's brownshirts... with a very healthy dose of Antifa people.

However, Ivan's got the right feels for the election part. No need for an election if you are doing what the people themselves want. Heck, they've been telegraphing their thoughts about this when they say they are worried that Trump might cancel the election. They'd love it.

Neither Trump, nor his predecessor, nor their followers have anything fascist at all..
How can you not expect in such a context violence in your society? Or do both sides want it? Too easy to avoid debate by demonizing your opponent. You were the first democracy, one of the rare uninterrupted democracies for more than 2 centuries
I wonder if a day will come when a losing candidate in a US election won´t concede defeat, and his supporters will be roaring behind him or her instead of dismissing that person.

The Left has been pushing the "Bush/Trump/Pence/genericRepublican" is a Nazi theme for quite a while, which is especially interesting since their own tactics showing up of late in their fringe and now center wings has that stink.
Whether Antifa looks like the Nazis or the Red/KPD of good old 1930s Germany is not question. They look like at least one them for sure, and that is truly dangerous.

And republicans have responded in kind, and before that Trump accused Obama of not being an American, and the election invalid.
The only good side is to marginalize the few crazies and accept that people who disagree with you are not traitors but simply people who have different opinions.
Inspiration usually came from the leadership: You an´find any Bushes or Reagans who talked like Trump, Saunders or Warren.
I fear that one of these days, someone´s ego and hundreds of thousands of morons who love their leader as a prophet will topple a democracy that a civil war could´nt break.
