Because the last Labour government decided to disband the combat wing. A deal had been struck by the previous government for us to buy some of the embargoed Pakistani F-16's and they cancelled that deal and "generously" instead signed us up to the white elephant AKA NH-90 helicopter instead.

it´s a new version of Steyr AUG?

Here is a historical piccie of the crew which flew the Ventura which dropped bamboo rafts to Frank Keefe in the harbour at Rabaul. My father had interesting stories of the trip back through the tropical storm. James Michener rewrote the story for an American audience with an American cast in Tales of the South Pacific.

After 15 years of ad hoc bolting bits and pieces onto the original F88 and the F88SA2, they finally went back to the drawing board and put it all together properly, giving the weapon back a bit of balance.
That can be said of the Steyr in general since its development its had little true development since then apart from a rail here or there. The EF88 is the first real evolution and development of the design. Had Thales not over cooked their price on the "Upgrade" bid for the NZDF we'd most likely have them now too. I'd be keen to get my hands on one to compare them with the original and our current MARS-L's.

Three Royal New Zealand Air Force NH90 helicopters to undertake transport tasks to support Defence Australia's efforts in tackling the Australian fires. This week we’ll also be sending two New Zealand Army Combat Engineer Sections as well as a command element.

Our support will deploy by Royal Australian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft and one of our Hercules aircraft from Base Ohakea on a number of flights until Wednesday.

HMNZS Te Mana started her refit in March 2019, again slated for 10 months to complete. She is still there with no end in sight.

Odd looking bit of gear. Sounds like a pile of puss, needing 85 million in rework after an initial price of 130 million...

A bastardised procurement process of a commercial design meant for coastal shipping not deep ocean operations and with major design flaws in seakeeping and heavy weather abilities. The design walked like a duck, quacked like a duck but the NZ government seemed to believe it would fly like an eagle.

BAE has undertaken the $85 million so it seems they accepted liability. But as usual it seems government was trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear and Canterbury will never be able to fulfil its envisioned capabilities.

The whole procurement process was a clusterfuck IMHO, see the link for a review
