I read a local newspaper article a few days ago.

A man has been acquitted for the rape of a young woman. The woman is mentally handicapped and it was determined by experts that she is not capable of giving consent. The judge ruled that there was a lack of evidence. This greatly upset the victims family. Meanwhile the victim stood up from her chair. This was a bit difficult, seeing as how she is pregnant ... with the defendant's child.

Both are of the culturally enriched variety, so I'm sure this'll be the last time we hear of anything connected to this case ...

She gets raped.
The perp's attorney claims she can't be raped because she can't give consent because she is handicapped.

Attorneys and lawyers are de-facto "scumbags", since they will defend their client no matter what. That's their job.

But for the judge to go "hum... I dunno! this whole thing does not seem very convincing to me! I will need more evidence! hur hur dur", that's just awfully dumb.

Though, since it was mentioned they are "both of the culturally enriched variety" (is that a racist thing to say? are we going to get in trouble for stating facts?) that might have been why the judge decided to suddenly find himself into a moral and judicial pickle with regards to "evidence".

Apple carts are so easy to upset these days, sometimes it is necessary to commit a few injustices for the greater good.
