I'm with the idea Putler can point fingers and plant bogus evidence all he wants, but at the end of the day, what can he actually do? I mean besides call up the class of '24 and send them off to be targets.

The translated from Arabic to English IS claiming responsibility for tonight’s carnage:

Remember Europe and the attacks we endured circa 2015-2017: « Christians are our favorite prey… »

If there is a winning strategy, it's continuing to hit Russian energy production.
I'm listening to a Polish anylyst at the moment and he said the U.S. government tries to stop Ukraine from attacking more RuZZian oil refineries, as U.S. customers would pay more money for fuel if oil production drops.
Of course, Biden doesn’t need this scenario a few months before the presidential elections in the USA.
In other words, the U.S. government tries to tie up Ukraine’s balls.

Biden could simply open up US oil production and watch oil go down to $35 per barrel. He won't do that.

The Ukrainian presidential office says the US did in fact not tell Ukraine to stop attacking Russia's oil industry. (Source)

Maybe the truth lies in between. Maybe they told Kiev they'd rather Ukraine stopped, but didn't outright tell them to stop.

A long roll:

I don't think he needs this anymore. He can win any election with mindless drones just doing obey mode straight out of They Live.

But I find it 'interesting' that we go from no arty shells, to 1.5M shells in 6 weeks. Russian AWACS are down, a squadron of good russian fighters are down, now oil refineries are down, ground invasion of Russian Territory, Russian ships keep sinking.

No arty shells or "we need more air defence" was a bullshit right from the start. They would do just as everyone would do - try to appear weak in front of your allies so you can extract as much money and weapons as possible. I never believed the tale of "we are about to break" when in almost every engagement Russia is loosing like 1:5 or 1:10. The only aspect Russia is having an advantage in is the number of bodies so far.

The rest of it is a sales pitch - if you can have more, would you ever say "Thanks, I have all I need"? Of course you always want more so you can spare more soldiers, take fewes casualties. Even the US military claims of not being equipped sufficiently.

Sekelskyi is as much a salesman as he is a statesman these days - we should keep that in mind. Ukraine was never as weak as the Ukrainian leadership and some Western heads of state claimed them to be

RuZZia is in a demographic collapse, but it has gained 9 million new citizens, while Ukraine has lost 19.
Some people believe this war is more about a population grabbing than a land grabbing.
With Ukrainians being able to flee to the West, Ukraine is going to lose even more citizens if the situation on the frontline worsens.

The ones staying behind in the Russian occupied territories are mostly the elderly who have nowhere to go and noone to care. They will be more of a liability than a boon for Russia. This was different in 2014 but there really is no real population grab in 2022-2024

I have a similar view of the land, it’s all torn up, buildings destroyed, roads ripped up. In pure economic value its worthless. It’s only value I can see is as a buffer against Russia, as a ticket to nato and eu, and emotionally.

Especially not after throwing the male population into the meat grinder in late '22.

Natural resources, Bakhmut wasn't chosen randomly on a map. That's what locusts do, they strip the land and move on.
