After lengthy discussions, the Austrian government has accepted a draft to increase military spending. 1% of the GDP is to be spent on defence from 2023 onwards, followed by an increase in increments to 1.5% by 2028. An additional one-time cash injection of up to €10 billion is planned. With the additional funds, the Austrian Army seeks to modernise its tanks, upgrade its slimmed-down Typhoon fighter jets to the international standard and also buy three additional twin-seat Typhoons from Germany. The measures also include a salary increase. (
