on 17 January, the Minister of Defence held his annual review at the Bálna in Budapest. "In an era of threats, the security of the Hungarian people is the most important priority for the Hungarian Government. In parallel with the acquisition of modern military technology, the organisational restructuring of the armed forces is also taking place. In this work we have now reached a crossroads. The personnel of the armed forces must also be renewed", said Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.

Even the generals and senior officers listening to him had no idea that the renewal would begin there. With them.

After the public part of the annual review, they were ordered to the Bálna floor, where the minister - in the presence of Lieutenant General Romulus Ruszin-Szendi, Chief of the Defence Staff - read out those who would be discharged, referring to the government decree 8/2023, published that day, which states that the service of anyone over 45 years of age and with at least 25 years of service may be terminated. In the time since the annual review, our sources who are familiar with what has happened have been able to confirm the discharge of the following out of a total of more than 110 people affected:

Brigadier-General Péter Lippai, Commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces on Land (continues as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Military Science and Military Officer Training of the National University of the Hungarian Armed Forces);

Major General Nándor Kilián, former Air Force Force observer;
Brigadier General Csaba Ugrik, Commander of the 101st TFW the Hungarian Army,
Brigadier General László Kovács, cyber defence force observer.
In addition, several others have been called home from important NATO posts, such as Brigadier General Joseph Spisak, Chief of Staff of the Alliance's largest mission, KFOR. It is also understood that most of the heads of department in the Ministry of Defence were replaced at the same time as the dismissals

The Ambassador of the United States of America, Bijan Sabet, informed today that the United States, as part of foreign military cooperation, will provide the Czech Republic with an additional 200 million dollars as partial compensation for the equipment that the Czech Republic provided to Ukraine.

"We greatly appreciate this help, which we perceive as an expression of appreciation for how the Czech Republic has been helping Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict. We will use the funds to further modernize our army," said Defence Minister Jana Černochová, adding that negotiations on specific projects will still be held.

The newly announced 200 million dollars (converted to approx. 4.4 billion crowns) will come from the Foreign Military Financing program. This is another donation in addition to the previously announced $100 million, which is also intended for the further modernization of the Army of the Czech Republic and for partial compensation of our supplies of material to Ukraine, and another already mentioned six million dollars from the Fund for Countering Russian Influence intended for building so-called deployable cyber protection teams that will be created within the Czech Army.

Greece:
Aeronautics Ltd. – a world leader in designing, developing and manufacturing Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for global defense and HLS markets – announces a contract to supply dozens of its Orbiter 3 systems to the Greek Ministry of Defense. The agreement is part of the large contract between the Israeli and Greek Ministry of Defense, worth approximately 370 million euros, for the procurement of Rafael’s Spike missiles.

As part of the contract, Rafael will provide an advanced solution enabling significant operational advantage to the modern battlefield; While the Orbiter 3 systems detect, recognize and identify (DRI) the target, the Spike missiles, launched from the air, sea, or land can rapidly close the sensor-to-shooter loop, using the “Fire Weaver” C4I system. The rapid Sensor to Shooter process implementing advanced technologies, enables mission success.

The Orbiter 3 is a small tactical unmanned aerial system and considered to be one of the leading systems in its class worldwide providing superior performance for both defense and HLS applications. Highlights of the Orbiter 3 operational performance includes advanced ISTAR capabilities, runway-independent, long endurance, the capability of carrying various types of payloads, advanced image processing, a small logistical footprint, navigation including in a GPS-denied environment and the ability to withstand harsh weather conditions.
