Georgia to update it's military transportation fleet within the next 3 months.

In tune with the ongoing modernisation of the GDF ground vehicle pool, and following a tender, the Minister of Defence of Georgia signed a contract for the delivery of over 500 state of the art transportation and logistics vehicles of the brands MAN, IVECO, and Ford.

The new equipment is to replace the current transportation and logistics pool, consisting largely of Soviet and outdated post-Soviet, Nato as well as non-NATO equipment.

Lithuania could buy six UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and related equipment from the United States for $380 million.

On July 6, the US State Department approved the possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Lithuania.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale.

The proposed sale of these UH-60 helicopters to Lithuania will increase its capability to provide troop lift, border security, anti-terrorist, medical evacuation, search and rescue, re-supply/external lift, combat support in all weather. These UH-60 helicopters will allow for interoperability with US and NATO forces in rapid response to a variety of missions and quick positioning of troops with minimal helicopter assets.

Don't know if this smart investment for the current situation. If I was at Lithuanian MoD, I would be trying to get my hands on as many MANPADS and ATGMs as I could. Seems like more of a political driven acquisition than anything else.

Latvia’s defence minister announced today his country is willing to house American troops if the Trump administration follows through on its decision to pull thousands of troops out of Germany, becoming the second NATO ally to ask for those troops to be housed within its borders.

“We are ready — and this is an official announcement — we are ready to invest to receive a certain amount of American troops on Latvian soil,” minister of defence and deputy prime minister, Artis Pabriks, said during a virtual event hosted by the Brookings Institution. The desired deployment would be the first large US basing effort in the Baltic nation.

“We are not trying to punish the Germans. We don’t want to compete [with them], but if it’s really inevitable then we are ready to receive you,” he added.

When asked what kind of US presence the Baltic nation wants, a Latvian official told me the country is open to either rotational or a permanent American presence in the country, noting there are already 1,500 NATO troops stationed at the Adazi military base. The official noted that the country also has a string of training areas that could be used for basing.

Ukraine:
The disposal of unserviceable ammunition in Ukraine has been resumed under the NATO Trust Fund Demilitarization Project framework, managed the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). Demilitarization activities in the region were interrupted earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Special procedures have been put in place to ensure compliance with the sanitary and epidemiological regulations and to provide a safe work environment.

The Trust Fund was established in 2005 upon the request of the Ukrainian Government. The second phase of the project was initiated in 2011. Since then, NSPA has contributed to the disposal of more than 29,6 thousand tons of ammunition, 2,4 million PFM-1(S) antipersonnel landmines and employed up to 110 people in the region. With the restarting of activities, another 1,5 thousand tons of unserviceable munitions are expected to be destroyed and safely disposed by the end of 2020.

Ukraine owns a large numbers of old and obsolete weapons and ammunition, accumulated in the country after the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from the territories of the Warsaw Pact countries. These pose a potential threat to the population and the environment. NATO Trust Fund Project aims to improve the regional security and the safety of the population, at the same time as supporting Ukraine in fulfilling the Ottawa Convention Commitments.

The United States of America is the Lead Nation for this project. Further countries and international organizations sponsoring the project include the European Union, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Japan, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, Switzerland, and Turkey.

Ukraine:
Ukraine will sign a memorandum with the United Kingdom, securing 1.25 billion pounds ($1.61 billion) to build new military vessels for the Ukrainian Navy, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Wednesday.

The memorandum would be signed during Zelenskiy’s state visit to the UK on Oct. 7-8.

“This is an important strategic document ... we will sign this memorandum for the amount of 1.25 billion pounds,” Zelenskiy told local television, without giving further details.

Specialised military news agencies have said the funds would be in the form of a 10-year loan and allow the UK to provide 8 Barzan-class fast attack crafts to Ukraine.

They said the first two ships would be constructed in the UK with the remaining 6 vessels to be completed in Ukraine.

The Georgian MoD has signed an agreement with Israel to launch a joint enterprise under the patronage of STC DELTA, for the local production of AR-15 type weapons, specificaly the M4.
Appropriate facilities and equipment will be in place towards the end of this year and production to begin in 2022.
The process of establishing such capabilities was initiated already by preceding MoD Irakli Garibashvili. So this isn't really news or at least big news. Weapons crafted by STC DELTA are to equip primarily the defence forces.

MoD further stated that drone procurement will continue as local production is still in it's planning phase.

Several other joint ventures are planned and discussed with South Africa and Poland.

^^Further news:
Georgian defence industry will join forces with Israeli partners to produce M4 rifles while also being in talks with Polish and South African companies to launch joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles - in addition to planning procurement of a further batch of Javelin anti-tank systems from the United States and anti-air missile systems from an Israeli company.

The news were revealed by Minister of Defence Juansher Burchuladze in his briefing to the parliament on Thursday around the ministry's initiatives for bolstering Georgian Defence Forces equipment and launching local production of arms and technology.

The production of the M4 - a US-designed rifle equipping troops and special forces in dozens of countries including US, Georgia and Israel - is expected to commence in late 2021 on a joint Georgian-Israeli line at the local Delta defence production company grounds, Burchuladze told MPs during his 'Minister's Hour' briefing.

Along with the initiative, the MoD is in talks with Polish and South African partners to begin construction of UAVs at joint plants in 2022, also utilising infrastructure of the Georgian company that has expanded and developed its capacity over the last decade or so.

In his comments Burchuladze said moves for procurement of drones would continue alongside the launch of their local production, and said talks with NATO partner states were ongoing around details.

The defence minister told MPs recent armed clashes in the South Caucasus and across the world had highlighted the significance of "operational and tactical" drones and "electronic intelligence and surveillance" systems, making them a matter of "special attention" for the armed forces.

In a third project revealed by the minister at the briefing, the MoD is working to obtain mobile anti-air missile defence systems from Rafael, an Israeli arms producer, to equip its manoeuvring forces before the end of 2021.

Burchuladze also revealed the MoD was planning to obtain further batches of the FGM-148 Javelin, a US-produced portable anti-tank missile launcher the Georgian Defence Forces have received in the recent years. In his comments the minister said the troops required more of the modern systems for increasing their capacity for "neutralising numerically and technologically superior hostile forces."
