At least somebody had sense unlike protesters at the wailing wall.

Unlike the populace from other Soviet republics, Belarussian didn't contribute much to the Waffen SS. 30th Waffen SS division, which was in France promptly mutinied, and the personnel either defected to the allies or saw refuge in neutral Switzerland. Byelorussian Auxiliary Police like their counterparts everywhere in the occupied Soviet Union committed heinous atrocities and war crimes that defy description.

Interesting to notice that while in Russia Vlasov hs been treated as traitor and criminal, Bandera became a hero in post-maidan Ukraine.

Actually, I'm not talking about Vlasov or Bandera, both tragic persons in history with Bandera spending most of the war in the concentration camp. On the Russian side, the biggest scumbags are Andrei Shkuro and Pyotr Krasnov. There is a strong push for both to be rehabilitated. Fortunately, this hasn't happened yet. Not sure about the monuments, though. That being said for someone who is of genuine Cossack background, whose family was persecuted by the Soviets, these two figures most likely are heroes. It's all a matter of perspective.

Well, it is like "freedom fighters and terrorists", for some Hitler and Arafat are heroes too.

Yes, absolutely. While Hitler is a taboo topic, but with 200% certainty when the Palestinians will get their own state, Arafat is going to be officially named as a "father of a Palestinian nation". But you know what? I don't give a S**t. If the Palestinian nation is not going to be a threat to my people, they can worship whomever they like. I'm not about imposing my beliefs on people who don't like me very much. live and let live.

"Peaceful" protestors with firearms. No it isn't Chicago.

Troll, radio svoboda employees are from Russia but the organization itself is US funded, no doubts about that.
Are you telling me that Lukashenko asked Putin for help and the latter sent him a group of journalists who are funded by the U.S.A. in order to run the Belarusian state-owned TV or are you talking about something different???

Hi all.

I am not new here my first account was on mp.net then I followed you guys to themess but I was reading only most of the time.
I'm from Minsk, Belarus and my first post on mp.net was about my experience in anti-lukashenko protests in 2006. So here we go again.

Actually I'm not sure what is going on in my country. We still have protests coordinated by network of telegram channels and it's parent channel nexta. I did not take part in 9-10-11 aug riots because one of my family members was arrested a week earlier and had spent 15 days in jail (no violence in any form against him, just some human rights violation). I'm still with the protesters however I find their methods very questionable. Fake news, nazi card, media wars, threats to police, army, any public person that does not openly support the protests etc.

Probably we have lost many pro-russian people after Russia backed Lukashenko and took care of media coverage. Hope this ends up well.

Feck sake mate, WHY??

Because that's what the first picture looks like. BTW, they are not current photos at least some of them like the first one were posted over a week ago and repeating them now smacks of political propaganda and honey pot bait, so it is ok to make jokes about it, IMHO.

Today the day in Belarus has passed relatively calmly. Rallies for and against the current government gathered throughout the country. There were no serious incidents. The President personally participated in the rally in Grodno. And in Minsk on pl. Independence briefly appeared Maria Kolesnikova.

The streets were periodically blocked in the city along the movement of the protesters' columns. Transport went without delay. Mobile communications and the Internet in crowded places worked intermittently.

Welcome (again) @Statk, your insights are actually appreciated as a Belarus resident. So post more as events pan out eventually.

Nothing to add to what Bombardier said. We generally dislike chiming in with the mods hat on because of some bickering, the topic needs to be discussed so please keep a cool head, all.
