The madness escalates. The US may ban the use of the term mRNA. Not just research on it, but the use of the term itself. You know - Katalin Kariko was awarded the Nobel Prize for the development of mRNA technology. Link to the source in the author's post.
Researchers have reported that officials at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) have called on scientists to remove any reference to mRNA vaccine technology from their research grant applications, a sign that the agency may abandon a promising area of medical research.
The mRNA technology, which was developed with the decisive contribution of Nobel Prize winner Katalin Karikó, is currently being studied by the NIH for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, including influenza and AIDS, as well as cancer. The technology has been used in the development of covid-19 vaccines, which are credited with saving 3 million lives in the US alone and were even boasted about by President Donald Trump during his first term.
NIH officials have also told a leading NIH-funded vaccine researcher in New York State, who does not conduct mRNA vaccine research but has described its effectiveness in previous grant applications, that any reference to mRNA vaccines should be removed from future proposals.
According to a former government official familiar with the internal discussions, the Trump administration intends to cut some of the funding for mRNA vaccine research, but the timing is unclear. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to protect his ties to the administration.
In the US, political conservatives have promoted conspiracy theories, unsupported by scientific evidence, that the vaccines and the relatively new technology are dangerous. This has undermined public support for cervicosis vaccines and mRNA research.
"NIH will not fund any research on mRNA vaccines," the New York scientist said in an interview. "The MAGA people are convinced that these vaccines have killed and maimed tens of thousands of people. It's not true, but that's what they believe".
