Education had nothing to do with what happened today. Now our surroundings did play a role. First thing I learned taking a sociology class was " Man is a product of his own culture". We have poor education of course but it depends where you live and were raised . I knew as far back as 1976 the nation was going to "pot" literally, when a fellow work friend married a Teacher in Baton Rouge, she was a straight up pot head. It was unthinkable in my young life simply because it would have never ever been allowed to happen. Today we have no true law enforcement. People in charge all seem to be the bad guys today. So it comes as no surprise to me what happened. I wish I had the strength and patience to write a long memoir of the things I have witnessed in this long life. One of the first would be still too young to walk and playing in my sandbox in front of our house. I had several brightly colored plastic cups and saucers and to this day I distinctly remember that strong petroleum smell of those new plastic toys I was playing with. Decades later I learned that every tire being made was using 7 quarts of oil in the making. Not a historical thing for sure but that would come later when I ran to school two blocks away from home to watch John Glen take the first manned space flight . The hits just kept coming after that.Looks like a lone wolf type of guy who was arrogant enough to feel "chosen" to make history. Not really surprising.
Nor unusual and atypical by American standards, to be honest (although I think @Junglejim's words were a bit too harsh).
Maybe he was inspired by some of the more recent assassination attempts against high-profile politicians worldwide.
