That's a very reductive and simplistic approach on things that fails to acknowledge both what has been done and the precedents it allows to happen.

And please... "Trump supporters upset by jokes made by comedians"? That's delusion to think these comedians aren't actually serious when they call anything under the sun slightly right of their own political position a "nazi" or a "fascist" that "should be killed", "eliminated", "removed", etc... under the guise of quirky puns and laughs-in-a-can. In addition to being fundamentally dishonest regarding the entire context in which these "jokes" and "childish insults" are set.

These are not jokes, they are calls for violent activism. Which, incidentally, led to a number of politically motivated criminal acts, some resulting with deaths, and several attempts on political figures (including SC Judges).

So, one might and should ask oneself "are these really childish jokes made by slop comedians"?

I'm sorry but calling for someone to get killed and then coming up with a "good" after the attempt has been made isn't about "respect", "living together", "being over-sensitive". Unless the underlying message is: well, respect, living togetherness and such will be achieve once the "over-sensitive" ones are removed.

You also have to ask yourself: what is an insult? Is the alleged insult an actual one, or is it factually correct?

For instance, Biden got called a demented geriatric pedo. Is that an insult or is it accurate?
For instance, the leader of the AfD got called a nazi and such. Is that an insult or is it accurate?
For instance, Mélanchon got called a populist antisemite. Is that an insult or is it accurate?
For instance, Trump got called mass-murdering spawn of the Devil literally worse than Mao, Stalin Pol Pot and Hitler. Is that an insult or is it accurate?

So you know what's right and wrong?

Because that's what your take boils down to.

"Insult or accurate" is exactly that you define what's correct and what not.

A simple example I can't run around and say hej you're so fat to every obese I encounter. According to you factually correct and not an insult.

An autist would tell that to the obese but that's not how things work.

Much less in politics.

Didn't Azerbaijan invade Armenia recently?
Under Turkey's umbrella?
Isn't Azerbaijan an arguably bad place with an authoritarian dictator Erdogan 2.0 at its head?

Who cares? Welcome to the new world of self interests.

The EU can probably give more to both than Russia.

And even improve the area.

Russia just left Armenia in the rain and then even threatens them when turning westwards.

Russia has nothing to offer like usual and was not even able to stabilize the region.

They left all in shambles.

Why would Europe do that?

Didn't you just say it was a world of "self-interest"?

The only thing the EU is interested in with regard to Azerbaijan is energy. And to get it, in order to compensate from stopping the purchase of Russian gas, the EU is willing to turn a blind eye regarding all the scummy business done by Erdogan and his satellites.

And all while claiming the moral high-ground.

The hypocrisy is just 🤌!

Frankly, I actually think that's a good thing. Europe needs to look after its own interests more and cooperate with those who wish to cooperate with us. Sweet words and taking the moral high ground don't work anymore in a world where even the inventors of the post-war order take a massive dump on said order.
Winged hussars won't help this time.
Yep. By the way, those figures aren't just an example of a failed immigration policy. They're also indicative of a failed city and regional planning policy thwarting integration. Up to 8% of the population of Austria is Muslim, how could such an imbalance in Vienna be allowed to develop?

Interesting.

That the law got passed at that period is, heh, "understandable" I suppose.

But that it remained in our days and age is rather backward, especially regarding the "destroy the public's trust in that official's ability or willingness to discharge their duties faithfully and fairly" part.

Assuredly insults don't have a place in civil discourse and bring nothing but discredit on the person who lost their temper. And if someone wants to make a fool out of themselves by throwing names, let them do that.
However, criminalizing it is, as I said, backward and, considering how laws are stretched to accommodate concepts such as "hate crimes" with links to whatever-phobia is, indeed, concerning and EU related.
I agree with your criticism, but nt with your conclusion. Having followed the legislative progress of this controversial law, I cannot see any reason to link it to the EU.

Personally, I see more of a parallel to the UK, which is anything but influenced by the EU. They've also begun to restrict free speech, much more so than Germany or any EU member state. And the way I see it, the primary driver behind those restrictions isn't even wokery but an obsession with consensus.

Long before The Woke had spread to our shores, and long before Britain's Tories and Germany's CDU had moved to the centre, even our conservatives were of a mind that we can't have too much arguing and upset in our societies. That there's somehow something amiss when a debate becomes too loud and vivid.

So, why is it 1.6 kids per woman in your own country? It’s even lower amongst whites.
Why do you lecture somebody if your country is not a good example to follow?
