Politics The EU is killing Europe

Actual departments with secretaries to continue.

Reformation of unanimously votes on certain topics would be another thing to consider.

Accountability and transparency would be nice.

Yes, it would be nice that directives would be brought up for discussion.

Now we often just hear that such and such directive comes into effect starting next year, and oh, it was already voted on.

And the micromanagement through EU. Such as that suddenly you can't use ammo with lead. Aren't local governments perfectly capable to handle such things? In that instance it was also utterly stupid, lead was to be banned to protect migratory birds, but it also applied to use on firing ranges. Geniuses didn't bother to wonder what kind of implication this might have. And the discussion has been going for 4 years, while it should be clear with five minute discussion that it needs to be amended.

Minister of Defence Häkkänen: EU's planned lead ban would weaken defence

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has proposed to the Commission to extend the restriction on the use of lead. The use of lead shot in wetlands has already been banned for health and environmental reasons. Now, it is proposed to ban the use of lead shot and bullets completely, with the exception of national defence and other official use. In practice, the proposal would lead to the end of the civilian use of lead shot and bullets after the transition period.

According to Minister of Defence Häkkänen, the proposal is a risk to national and European security. -Now we should strengthen the European defence industry and crisis preparedness, not weaken it.

If implemented, the proposal would significantly reduce Europe's lead bullet production capacity. Sufficient capacity also in crisis situations requires the civilian and military use of lead bullets. There is also concern about the impact of the proposal, especially on voluntary national defense training at shooting ranges. The proposal would also require oversized and expensive technical solutions for shooting ranges in relation to the health and environmental risks caused by lead.

The Ministry of Defense and the rest of the Government have already actively sought to influence the previous Commission to change the proposal.

- We have clearly informed the Commission on several occasions about the harmfulness of this lead regulation for national defense, the defense industry and crisis preparedness. We therefore welcomed the information received in the summer that the proposal had been stopped. In light of the new situation, we have prepared a compromise proposal for the Commission, which takes into account the defense, health and environmental risks. We are now also seeking support from other countries to change the proposal, Häkkänen says.

My family still owns land in Europe. In the very sunny part of Europe. We could have signed a 30 year lease with someone who was getting paid by the EU to put up solar panels. We felt 30 years is just too long, so it's leased to farmers who are also getting paid by the EU.

For farmers the EU was a disaster. While there is EU subsidies, it's much less than when they got national subsidies, at least here. And this killed off most of the small farms, and even the large ones are in trouble over all sorts of regulatory nonsense. In Finland we went from 150 000 farms in 1990 to 37 000 today.

Another worldwide phenomenon with globalization and end of subsidies. I don't know any of the free trade delegates who owned family farmland. No representation. Even Fonterra here a big milk proccessor and exporter told its suppliers go green or you will be paid less. As of now the farmers are about to revolt.
If they had have performed the changes they would have been the only ones in the world automatically giving the competition the advantage of lower costs. Hardly any shopper buys woke cheese over the next one thats cheaper.

Yeah, I'm not sure how much the EU is paying them. I know it's much more than we are charging for rent.

A small faction in the Norwegian govt stopped sea mining some vaste amount of rare minerals. Like never work again amount. And its good green economy mining.
So much red tape like California.

Then why are all flocking here if its so bad?

The EU hasn't hurt me so far.

For the same reason people are flocking to the US though the economy isn't doing great, the debt is ridiculously high and, apparently, it is the most racist and xenophobic country on Earth.

A bit like the EU.

But if you manage to convince the right people you are a poor migrant looking for a better life and also looking to be a vital asset to the society because you are a "doctor/lawyer/architect/etc... highly qualified and skilled individual", well, there are lots of benefits you can claim.

That's what makes the EU so good.

As for the EU not hurting you, well, good for you? Enjoy. Though the amount of people having it extremely hard due to the EU is likely to outweigh the amount of people in your situation.

He knows this thing, as a German suffers the loss of the inventions they were famous for.

Salaries are constantly increasing...

So its not only me.

The EU has many advantages many people probably forgot or never knew.

And the things that must be amended should be change is welcome. Especially elections.

But disolving the EU is a no go.

Talking about shooting yourself in the foot.

And the cost of living grows much faster.

In 2023 for instance, inflation rate was at about 9%, it means the growth in wages was just half of the increase in the cost of living.

EU currency is about double NZ or Aussie. Both considered well off countries so in terms of respect for the conomic strength of the union it is 2x us. We used to have parity. Pretty good progress over time for EU. Does make it hard to buy your stuff though.

Well this is one point. EU agricultural subsidies are very political. On one hand thats good because it strengthens internal food production and security.

But it can get out of hands.

Examples:

Cows in Corsica or subsidies for donkeys to keep them from going extinct...

The ECB is kind of the holy grail...the € may not be worthless.

Also many other factors mainly stability and expectability play into it.

US dollar is consistently valued lower than the EUro despite literally at one hand tied behind the back war with second best army. It comes back to you are spending not much on it.

The financiers rate it as a side show ...hundred of thousand dead

I remember when a Euro was 1.7 to the dollar. Now it's roughly 1 to 1 or less.
