Make a park from the industrial zone. Sorry, but this is a delusional solution. Goodbye port infrastructure, factory and jobs.
They promised the same changes and crowds of tourists in the Crimea (also DPR/LPR). What has changed?
Well switching the Azovstal plant to something else is a logical step eventually. Having such a plant smack in the center of the city is really shitty and long term id drags the whole city down.
However, their plan that they would just like magic turn the city into a prosperous tourist destination under current conditions is a delusion.

It is or was the biggest in Europe with a type of special steel refinement.
Practically irreplaceable. Like that Antonov plane but productive. Over 10,000 real jobs instead of tourist service. Have to wonder which Oligarch its been gifted to.

Reportedly, today a meeting will be held in Kiev regarding the fate of Severodonetsk.

It may be within the realm of possibility that, in the coming days, it may be completely surrounded.

The AFU cic, for the second week, demands the withdrawal of the group from the city. The political leadership is, allegedly, against it because they believe that the city has a symbolic meaning and value.

There also appears to be Russian counterattack in near Kharkov. Perhaps aimed at cutting off Ukrainian troops that advanced too far north and east from the city.
It is heading toward the Kharkhov - Staryi Saltiv road (T2014) with a possible prospect to retake towns around Cherkaksi and/or Ruski Tyshky. Doing so would result in the trapping of UA forces north of that all the way to Lyptsi because of the dense forest on the west flank of the Kharkhov - Lyptsi road.
The troops could be fully or semi trapped due to the lack of any major, even secondary roads through the forest.

To remind Ukraine of that is the goal of the counteroffensive.
If UA does not leave strong forces in the front, then Russia will simply advance again, up to the gates of Kharkhov. If there is not significant resistance there, Russia will proceed to surround the city.
Since the Zelensky is very sensitive to PR it is likely to reinforce this front, rather than reinforce the critical ones with troops from it.
Ultimately, Ukraine is trying to defend everywhere, thus defending nowhere, to slow down Russia. It cannot stop RU and it is not trying to. Zelensky is simply playing for time, possibly believing that in enough time, the west will save Ukraine.

Good gods, "Russia's advance is fast". I guess if a km or 2 per day is fast. This is the army we were worried was "7 days to the Rhine". I am sure the deep penetration OMG's are ready to advance just like the cavalry was ready to sweep in as soon as those annoying trenches and machine gun nests were dealt with.

Can't really compare a world wide sanctioned resort (Crimea) with a not sanctioned. Unless you compare a internationally sanctioned Azovstal with an internationally sanctioned resort (much weirdness).

Alas, it's a pointless comparison, Russia won't rule in Mariupol long enough to do anything regarding reconstruction.

Dude, you are coping right now.

It's hard to objectively deny now that Russia has made a "breakthrough" in this region, and it can be said without exaggeration or unmerited optimism. They have outflanked Ukraine with this, and the funniest thing is not a single western analytical source seen it coming.

This is what happens when you create a self confirming pro Ukraine echo chamber telling you how they're imminently going to take back Crimea every week.

You do realize that NATO membership is more than a club membership and potential military bases on the ground?

edit. i cannot believe i have to explain how a military alliance differs and changes things compared to an economical union.
sorry if i sound condescending.

Why would they since most members are in NATO already? Believe me, Finland has been going around talking about this for the past 8 years to other EU countries and got a pretty much a shrug.

As I said, if it makes you or the Fins feel better, go for it, there's no drawback.

I just said it's changing nothing on the ground, since the EU states "If a Member State is the victim of an armed aggression on its territory, the other Member States shall have towards it an obligation of aid and assistance by all the means in their power, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter", whereby ALL MEANS does include military means.

No one knows what Putin gonna do after seeing Us troops near Murmansk.
Absolutely nothing but the usual threaths of this and that, they maybe even throw in a couple of airspace violations by their Kaliningrad bound cargo planes. Should the russians be upset about us troops near murmansk? No, not excatly. It's nothing new since Norway.

They are upset bc of the 1,5h driving distance from the Finnish border to downtown St. Petes. They have had very little forces, if anything in that area, even though they have their baltic sea gas and oil terminals over there. Now they need to change all that and it'll will cost them immensely.

Do you think Russian army will be merciful like in Ukraine??
We've all seen for past couple of months now how merciful they can be. We know from the past experiences what to expect from them, but the real question is, in fact, do they? You'd be surprised to see how the people over here refer to russians these days with their everyday discussions with each other.

I'll quote you on this in a week Ivan. And we shall see. And if I am wrong I will be happy to admit it.

Does Turkey not expect those countries to offer assistance in the event of an attack? So maybe, just maybe this isn't the right time for the Turkish president to act like a 5-year-old throwing a fit on the grocery store floor because mommy didn't buy him a candy bar.

Why? Realistically seen, it's the BEST time, when others are under pressure. When Western Europe was under pressure in 2015, he cut the refugee deal, earning him additional funds.

Now he's using the next arising opportunity. Good on him, he'll fall on deaf ears when they don't need something from him.

Erdogan won't block anything, he wants to get paid.

Well back in the days, given that in the Sov doctrine, tactical nukes were intended to be used like pepper grains, 7 days to the Rhine would have been achievable. By a bunch of green glowing polite little men ........

Now, try to do it under enemy artillery fire.....I am somehow convinced that Russians know how to do this damn bridge, they're not that stupid, but doing this during exercise is one thing, and doing this while being shelled is another story. Of course, I'm glad that UKR gave them a lesson.

As we have seen they do not have problem with radiation (Chernobil front) ;)

Well some of their radioactive dust may have blown over it at any rate.

"I hit a 5-iron, which sailed magnificently into a rather strong wind, with approximately 5 feet of cut, whereupon it bounced twice and then went clank, into the hole."

"In early March, Ukraine intelligence said that Chechen commandos sent to assassinate Zelensky had been "eliminated," with help from FSB agents sympathetic to Ukraine"

Interesting.

"Also, on Saturday, February 26, 2022, an assassination attempt by a group of Chechen mercenaries was prevented on the outskirts of Kyiv with the would be assassins killed.[9]"

I guess that is what happens when a bunch of idiots rock up in their Porsche. Then face off against NATO certified SF.
