Exercise Nemesis puts officer cadets to the test as one of the hardest training exercises they will face during the New Zealand Commissioning Course.
The exercise unfolds within the unforgiving Waiouru training area where the cadets push past their perceived physical and mental limits for five days. Carrying packs weighing 30-40kg, they endure tasks day and night, with only brief periods of sleep and minimal sustenance.

Heading home from the largest-ever iteration of Exercise Talisman Sabre, which ran in Queensland from late July to early August and involved around 30,000 military personnel from 13 countries.
During the exercise, New Zealand 150-strong combat team, mounted in NZ Light Armoured Vehicles formed a battlegroup with soldiers from Fiji, Australia, France, and the United States. Soldiers completed battle handling lessons which included search, assault boating, water point, explosive breaching, bridging and construction tasks.
The testing phase incorporated support from Infantry reconnaissance and surveillance, an Infantry Platoon from 1RNZIR a Sniper Detachment and Explosive Ordinance Disposal. This provided a platform for integrated training and offered an environment of realism in executing a range of combat and general support engineer tasks.
Exercise Arras culminated with an assault on the urban container village utilising explosive method of entry followed by an advance along Tarn track with multiple breaches and obstacle destruction prior to a final assault on an enemy position.
