***Local Caption *** The 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR) conducted a Battle Group Live Fire Exercise (LFX) on the 22-23 May 13 at the Townsville Field Training Area (TFTA) as part of 3rd Brigade’s Combined Arms Training Activity (CATA). The LFX was based on a scenario in which the Battle Group, supported by Artillery, Armoured, Air Lift and Air Attack assets, were required to destroy a simulated enemy and take three key objectives. The exercise began with a night insertion of elements via air and road, with the main assault beginning on the morning of the 23rd. The Battle Group completed two missions over the course of the CATA with the overall objective of preparing 3rd Brigade’s elements for Talisman Sabre 2013 and the ‘Ready” phase of the Army’s Force Generation Cycle. December 18 this year at the Australian shipyard BAE Systems Maritime Australia (former Adelaide Ship Construction International) in Osborne, South Australia, a ceremony of cutting metal sheets for Hunter missile frigates took place. The project is based on the British Type 26 Global Combat Ship (GCS), which was selected on June 29, 2018 under the SEA 5000 Future Frigates program.
The first three of Australia's eight Hunter missile frigates will be named Hunter, Flinders and Tasman after the British and Dutch sailors of great merit to Australia.

During the prototype phase, the ship's five key modules will be fabricated and assembled from Australian steel, and will be developed and tested for systems, processes, facilities and local technicians. This is to create a solid operational foundation for the construction of the first Hunter frigate in 2022. BAE Systems Maritime Australia has recently joined a 1,000 worker, and up to 1,000 more people will be hired in 2021 - including apprentices and graduates - as the program accelerates.
