Politics All Things Trump

So is the consensus on this forum that trade deficits = trade bad? (also can trade with canada ever have a trade surplus since the consumer base in canada is so small compared to US?)
All in all, pretty funny.
"WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES, MAYBE (AND MAYBE NOT!)"

Canada is subsidizing dairy, Cow in Canada will never compete with an outdoors all year grassfed NZ or Aussie cow and never did. few months ago Canada hit Chinese subsidized steel with 25% tariff while itself subsidizes its own steel. The days of carefree oblivioun are over.
To work or not to work that is the question.

Some bullets:

- China controls many Canadian ports.

- Almost all fentanyl comes from China, either in precursors or other, and flows into the US through Mexico and Canada.

- Fentanyl kills over 100,000 Americans per year.

- Mexican Peso and Canadian Dollar are both collapsing in value in the past 2 days.

- Companies in Canada are moving to the US rather than pay the tarriffs.

- Secretary Of State Rubio is in Panama today and has made it clear that the CCP WILL NOT be allowed to control the canal.

Fentanyl is a problem, but I think it's just an excuse for the trade war.

The American products that I have been selling have been expensive until now, but if and when there will be EU tariffs and counter tariffs, I won't be able to sell a single unit. It goes both ways and will harm everyone. Allies, trade partners and rivals will start looking at other markets and start making new trade agreements, if it becomes impossible with the US.

Ukraine is actually as competitive as China. Better quality control and after sales.

US manufacturers have a wealthy free trade zone at their loading bay and now protected plus several million low cost migrants thanks to the border tzar. Future AI robots.
Paypal, Ebay, Amazon they keep on creating revolutionary systems.

There is not much gratitude or respect towards those who create, their product copied and arrives on the shelf next to theirs from merchantile Chinese free without consequence until now.

Everyone else has applied sales tax to imports plus duty plus border check grifters.

There won't be a trade war. The US is the market everyone wants to sell in.

US and the rest used to be timid, avoided any kind of critisizm of China thinking be nice and companies could get access and show them how things are done..
Some applied to their shenanigans in the canal whom have been pouring in billions and signing 25 year leases. Until Trump mentioned it.

Is this accurate? if it is, making canada as the issue seems strange.

That will ironically make it cheaper to import from there offsetting the tariffs. (well lets see how much its collapses)
- Companies in Canada are moving to the US rather than pay the tarriffs.
Are you worried about lack of workers? At the end of bidens terms US had full employment. (don't know the figures right now)

So what's your point. All of those you mentioned have a point. Like tarrifs on china that biden kept.
What is the point of current tariffs against canada. They will never buy enough from the US so there's a trader surplus, it's just not possible.

On a side note, it would be funny to be a fly on the ceiling and watch EU officials trying to negotiate with Trump's team on tariffs with these figures below in mind. And now LNG and oil products will play even bigger role as well as military hardware. Like wtf can they even do more lol

2023 Trade in Goods
Exports EU --> US 503.8 billion euros
Imports US --> EU 347.2 billion euros

2023 Value of Trade in Goods and Services between the US and the EU
EU 796.2 billion euros
US 743.6 billion euros

edit. Mexico got off very easy. Hilarious watching stocks start plummeting today and after this announcement (shorty after markets opened) start going back again.

Goods or Services? As the services aren't tariffed.
Without looking it is true US cars aren't a big driver on EU roads as Trump claims.

Wall Street the real protagonist behind US world neoconlib policy and China's ascendency. It was a wonderful idea post cold war.

Patriotic Elon wanted to be big in China, its a case of go big or go home literally. And lately its a struggling go home message for all of the foreign car makers. It all began with small consumer items, prone to low quality and now not even the cunning Elon can match it.
Zero sum game..don't hear that metioned much around these here parts.

Perhaps these days this is how the ex world neoconlibers on wall street also want it, onshoring their brands behind a barrier. Now they can read the tea leaves getting bumped out of off shore sales must be hard for the algorithms to take.

Mexico has folded. 10k troops going to secure their side of the border. I expect Canada to follow in a day or two

Sigh.
Another unconstitutional organization. More to follow!
Is it any wonder why the US is $36 TRILLION in debt.

The largest share of USAID’s $43.4 billion budget in fiscal year 2023 went toward foreign governance assistance ($16.8 billion), followed by humanitarian aid ($10.5 billion), health care initiatives ($7 billion), administrative efforts ($3.5 billion) and agriculture, education and infrastructure projects ($3.1 billion), according to a Congressional Research Service report issued in January.
