its a strange one, your an illegal immigrant, with a 'legal' job somewhere.
Do you:
A. go to work, keep your head down, explore the rules on getting legal, or prepare and pack your gear to go home
B. Get your big foreign flag, skip work, go down town, where there are 5000 uniformed police and agents looking for people that look like you, and start throwing rocks at the police.

I watched a clip of a masked insurrectionist spewing some nonsense about Marxism, Communism, etc. to a police officer. The officer says. "do you even understand what you are saying?" The insurrectionist screams back; "I GO TO COLLEGE BITCH!!!!!!!!!".

You guys would truly be the ones standing on the side cheering on Nazi rallies. None of the actions in LA needed the National Guard or the deployment of Marines. I would say ICE is the Gestapo, but the Gestapo actually had the brain power to ask for papers.... this is why the people started protesting, too much incident of grabbing the wrong people rather than an actual investigation.

I'm from the LA area From what I've seen historically and currently, it's typically not the immigrants themselves that are out there protesting and causing chaos. It's their kids. We have this system in place where immigrants (for the most part) come and work hard, but they have kids here and the value of work and sacrifice doesn't usually get passed down. Growing up in an immigrant community, the 1st gen + people have always tended to be the annoying ones. They want to speak for their parents but never actually lived their experiences.
I agree on your first point. The feds needed help, but they should have called in federal LE from across the country to provide force protection of federal property. Calling in the military was theatrics.
As for the second point, no I don't believe that people started protesting because ICE has been grabbing the "wrong" people. It's a problem we have in many immigrant communities where its ingrained that even though you're here illegally, somehow you're exempted from facing the consequences of that. My father is an immigrant, came here in the 80s. He remembers how Border Patrol and INS used to roll, doing things on the regular the way ICE is acting now. Back then it was understood by many illegal immigrants that it was a game. You're here illegally, you might get caught. You don't want to get caught but it is what it is. But that attitude changed slowly over time and has festered, being enabled by certain politicians and portions of society. That and there's so much disinformation on social media. I can't tell you how many times videos have been shared online since January of a border patrol vehicle with the caption "Border Patrol in (insert your city of choice), be careful!" Turns out it's just an old video of BP operating in the border areas.
The police chief said he was overwhelmed it is this simple. So the troops etc are looking after the federal buildings relieving police for protests.
Also to maintain non lethal barriers that requires numbers or they could just have less and start shooting looters on sight?
