Venezuela
An encounter between the Venezuelan patrol vessel GC-23 Naiguata and the ice-class expedition cruise ship RCGS Resolute resulted in the patrol vessel's sinking, according to the government of Venezuela
In a statement, RCGS Resolute's operator asserted that the cruise ship was approached by an armed Venezuelan Navy vessel at a position about 13 nm off Isla de Tortuga. The Resolute was drifting with one engine idling and one engine undergoing maintenance. The Venezuelan vessel ordered Resolute's crew to follow to the port of Puerto Moreno, Isla de Margarita. As this would result in a deviation from the cruise ship's planned voyage, the master sought to confirm with the shipowner before complying with the request.
While the Resolute was consulting with the home office, the Venezuelan Navy vessel allegedly fired shots (apparently pistol shots) and then purposely collided with the Resolute's starboard side. The ramming was repeated, the firm said, until the Venezuelan vessel encountered Resolute's hardened bulbous bow and sustained severe damage. Resolute did not suffer any harm affecting her seaworthiness, and after contacting maritime rescue authorities in Curacao, she waited on scene for one hour, her operator said. After MRCC Curacao released her from the scene, she got under way for Willemstad.
Images taken from the pier in Curacao show that the damage to Resolute appears relatively minor.
The government of Venezuela identified the lost vessel as the 1,500 tonne, 80-meter patrol ship Naiguata, and it has accused Resolute of improperly departing the scene after the casualty. "The action of the ship Resolute is considered cowardly and criminal, since it did not attend to the rescue of the crew, in breach of the international regulations that regulate the rescue of life at sea," the statement reads.
In a second statement attributed to Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, the government in Caracas alleged that the Resolute collided with the Naiguata in an "act of aggression and piracy." Further, the government speculated that it could not rule out that Resolute “was transporting mercenaries to attack military bases in Venezuela, unloading them out there on the high seas.”

The US State Department has given Argentina the OK to procure 27 M1126 Stryker infantry carrier vehicles and related equipment for $100 million.
The prime contractor will be General Dynamics Land Systems.
The Government of Argentina had requested to buy twenty-seven (27) M1126 Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicles and twenty-seven (27) M2 Flex .50 Cal Machine Guns. Also included are AN/VAS-5 Driver’s Vision Enhancers; AN/VIC-3 Vehicle Intercom Systems; AN/VRC-91E Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS); Basic Issue Items (BIi); Components of End Items (COEI); Additional Authorized List (AAL); Special Tools and Test Equipment (STTE); M6 Smoke Grenade launchers and associated spares; Outside Continental United States (OCONUS) De-processing Service; OCONUS Contractor-provided training; Field Service Representatives (FSR); technical manuals; spare parts; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistical and program support.
Argentina will use the Stryker vehicles to conduct stability operations in support of disaster relief and international peace keeping obligations. The M1126 Stryker is a family of eight-wheel-drive combat vehicles that can travel at speeds up to 62mph on highways, with a range of 312 miles.

Brazil has officially begun manufacturing fighter jets with the start of production at a new facility that makes sections of the Saab Gripen, Swedish aerospace company Saab announced Tuesday.
Saab Aeronáutica Montagens, a new manufacturing plant located near Sao Paulo, has begun producing Gripen E/F aerostructures, including the tail cone and front fuselage for the single-seat Gripen E version of the jet. It will eventually also make the brakes, rear fuselage, wing box and front fuselage for the two-seater “F” model, Saab stated. Those structures will then undergo final assembly at Embraer’s nearby plant in Sao Paulo and Saab’s main Gripen production hub in Linköping, Sweden.
Saab won a contract with Brazil in 2014 for 36 Gripen E/F aircraft after a hard-fought competition that included Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet, the Dassault Rafale and the Eurofighter Typhoon. Technology transfer was a major requirement for all proposals.

5th August, 2020. 1005hrs: An McDonnell Douglas A-4AR belonging to the V Brigada Aérea of the Argentine Air Force suffered an accident over the town of Villa Valeria, in the province of Córdoba, 50 kilometers from its base, at Villa Reynolds
According to information obtained by Aviacionline, the pilot was able to eject from the aircraft, registration C-925, and is in good health.
The emergency plan was activated and the ejected pilot is being rescued.
Update 11:14 : Photographs in which the pilot is seen lying on the ground circulate on social networks. By editorial policy we prefer not to disclose them.
Update 11:31 : The Argentine Air Force confirmed that the pilot died in the accident.

They indicated that intelligence from the Military and Police Forces are being consulted to establish what information they have on the subject. According to that version, the ex-guerrilla, who breached his commitments to the peace agreement, would have died in an alleged confrontation with the Venezuelan Guard of Venezuela. After leaving the peace process, Colombian intelligence had confirmed that 'Santrich' and the other leaders of the dissidence had taken refuge in the neighboring country. Last week, the ColombianSupreme Court of Justice had authorized his shipment to the United States, where there is a file against him on drug trafficking charges.

The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) announced on Wednesday a surprising decision to cut the order for 28 KC-390 Millennium airlifter jets.
Claiming budget cuts, the service aims to reduce the rate of annual deliveries to two aircraft, but has not revealed how many units will be excluded from the order.
According to the original schedule, Embraer, which has already sent four KC-390s to the Air Force, should deliver three aircraft in 2021, three in 2022, four in 2023, three in 2024, four in 2025, four in 2026 and three in 2027.
The rate of delivery of two military transport jets per year suggests that the Air Force is expected to receive less than 20 aircraft in the future.
“The main issue concerns the expected number of 28 aircraft under the current contract, which, at this moment, has proved to be superior to the budgetary reality of the Force, both for acquisition and logistical support over time,” says the statement released by FAB.

Colombia deploys 14,000-strong military unit in restive border region
CUCUTA, Colombia, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Colombia deployed a new unit of 14,000 military personnel on Wednesday to increase government control of a conflict hotspot near the Venezuelan border, where multiple armed groups compete for control of cocaine production.The new unit, known by CENOR, deployed in the northeastern province of Norte de Santander, is the largest in Colombia's recent history.
During a ceremony on Wednesday to mark CENOR's launch, President Ivan Duque said the unit will look to crush drug trafficking and terrorism, as well as toppling financing for organized crime.
CENOR will confront dissident members of the demobilized FARC rebels who reject a 2016 peace deal, guerrillas from the National Liberation Army (ELN), and criminal groups including the Clan del Gulfo, which compete to control crops of coca, the chief ingredient of cocaine

Embraer said it was studying legal action as it evaluate the impact the reduction could have on its business and results. The company is the world’s third largest commercial jet maker.
The Air Force said it began negotiating with the company in April to reduce the quantity contracted in 2014 and Embraer had rejected the proposal.

The Argentine Navy has been a user of the RBS 70 since 1984 and is now upgrading to the latest RBS 70 NG.
