why would russia attack one of their own source of revenues from Europe? the US did it. Biden has said as much, a few times. "there will be no nord stream pipeline"The incident(s) impacting the Nord Stream pipelines presents some interesting and disturbing potentialities.
First concern is the newly inaugurated Norwegian-Polish pipeline. But that's not all; the liquefied gas terminals are rather vulnerable as well, but in either of those eventualities Russia would need to come out of the shadows in order to sabotage them.
The second concern is what other Easter eggs did Russia leave during the run up to this conflict? They had plenty of time to plan for contingencies. Regarding the Nord Stream explosions, it strains credulity that this was a technical issue, so who had the motive, and more importantly the capability to carry out such an undertaking? There are reports that there was no suspicious activity in the area prior to the incident, but this could have been facilitated weeks ago, with the Russians assuming that it would take time to trace responsibility back to them.
The important thing now is to determine, as quickly as possible, within a reasonable doubt, who the actor is, and return the favor in a commensurate manner that directly impacts the vital interests of that actor.
Assuming this was an attack, this is hybrid war on steroids, but it is still an act of war. It impacts vital security, economic and environmental concerns for multiple NATO & EU members. To not respond, is to invite a future where Europe operates under a cloud of blackmail. It also lays bare the desperation of the clique in Moscow. It should demonstrate that they have abandoned any pretense of a future free and fair partnership with Western Europe. This needs to be clearly understood by the West.
