US Embassy in Russia Issues Warning to Americans to Leave Russia "Immediately"

In the statement released this morning on the embassy's website, the US government issued a security alert and called on citizens to leave the country:

"Russia may refuse to recognize US citizenship for dual nationals, deny them access to US consular assistance, prevent their departure from Russia and recruit dual nationals for military service.

The embassy in Moscow also warns that Americans “must not travel to Russia” and advises all those residing or visiting the country to “depart from Russia immediately while limited commercial travel options still exist”.

The text warns that commercial flights from Russia are "currently extremely limited" and are often unavailable at short notice. "If you wish to leave Russia, you must make independent preparations as soon as possible."

US diplomacy also warns about the demonstrations in Russia. “We remind US citizens that the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression are not guaranteed in Russia. Avoid all political or social protests and do not photograph security officers at these events. Russian authorities have arrested US citizens who participated in demonstrations.”

....

Should we worry? :|
This is long overdue.

Anyone in Russia that doesn't have to be there deserves what's coming to them. I am sorry about those people whose circumstances beyond their control have put them in harms way.

At least he's being honest with them.
This is accelerating the switch to renewable energy sources and (the already ongoing) acceptance of nuclear energy. It will cost the EU quite a bit, predictions pre-war were close to €1t regardless of whatever outside influence. If not renewable energy then that money would be spent financing Russia by buying oil and gas.

In the end it will reduce the reliance on foreign powers especially if the distancing from China in regards to technology and manufacturing continues.

One step back and three steps forward.

Russia will be left selling their oil and gas to less competitors who can't afford to pay the premium that Europe has been paying. A lot of smart people who could have gotten alternative sources of income up and running have left, and the oligarch system and innovation do not go together well regardless. Cone up with a good idea and some oligarch will take it from you. Better to go to Europe or Silicon Valley where every bright individual has the potential to become a millionaire.

Thats a wild amalgamation of points in that article. What competetive edge he doesn't specify it. Can only be energy intensive businesses.

Putting Russia and the EU on even footing is not correct.

The EU has to scale back because its so large. Thsi reduces prices, an economically tiny country like Russia can not do more than artifcially meddle in resource pricing, clandestine ops and an ultimately total war which will take it down.

That was a huge miscalculation on a perceived weaknesses. The more Russia gets disconnected the worse for it. But the better for us, they are going to try to drag anybody down with them.

These disruptions are temporarily

The VAE has one of the worlds largest gas reserves and will deliver its first tranche to Germany in December.

Also Diesel and ammonia

There was a remark in the comments section of the article that made similar points to yours.

It is very true Putin is going to harm Russia more than he can damage Europe, but Europeans will still pay a price for many years of their leaders ignoring and profiting from their reckless dependence on Russian energy.

Germany will need to swallow it's pride and revisit nuclear if it intends to maintain large segments of it's industry.

In Ukraine, the autumn thaw began, the roads become impassable and armored vehicles begin to get stuck. In the video, two American-made International MaxxPro armored vehicles pull another International MaxxPro armored car out of the mud.

With the state of the economy here, I can see that people might be starting to see their own national concerns as greater than a fight going on in Europe.
you know, you are welcome to petition YOUR country to increase their aid to Ukraine so the US doesnt have to do as much heavy lifting.
In fact, All of you in the EU would probably be more than welcome to increase aid to Ukraine, and rely a little (or a lot) less on the US sugar daddy.
Well I for one am truly grateful for the US, it's truly being the arsenal of democracy and standing up to tyrants. I truly feel that US is back in business at least in terms of geopolitical standing, Reagan would be proud i think.

But i also believe that US dominance in geopolitics and US economic interests are inherently tied together. In the long run i don't see the US economical state improving if their biggest (At least in 2021 as far i know) and one the most important trade partners (EU) is hamstrung by the likes of Putin. That would also cause shockwaves into Asia (China-taiwan) and impact US economical interests there.

In general, I had a chance to visit the place of events myself. I don’t know if anyone from this forum managed to get there, and from which side. In general, from the recent - me (in camouflage), my colleague and our "combat" car.
In short, driving 120 km/h under the AС/DC (Sex pistols / Serbian war music / etc.) and Ukrainian artillery shelling is an unusual experience :)

If they haven't started banning people for citizenship here, I can answer some questions.

It looks like you have learned how to clean your boots. Why do you have a Russian uniform from the 90s?

Because it's warm. It's quite cold to be on duty at night. We are not military, we do not have to wear modern things.

And I always clean my shoes. We are scolded for this, but that photo was after the exercises in the forest :(

Being there is an excellent way to not be mobilized! If you don't mind my asking, what's the general mood of Russians you've seen in Ukraine?

We left the work area before the announcement of the mobilization decree. In general, the attitude of the local population towards us, as civil defense workers, and towards the Russian military is quite positive. We lived in apartments with local citizens, they constantly treated us in addition to rations.

As I have already said, for many here this war is not geopolitics (as it is for you overseas), but the fate of individual friends and acquaintances. Accordingly, the point of view of each person depends on the fate of his friends.

But in general, there are quite a few motivated people. In the places where we were, Ukrainian shelling, setting minefields, and actions of sabotage groups are frequent. It does not give popularity points.

Are you still a civil defense instructor, teaching first aid and such?
How do you see this conflict ending?

Many things are worth dying for but i think this ain't it (my opinion of course if it needs saying), so stay safe and healthy.
