According to 'Bloomberg', Russia has struck down Trump's suggestion the Vatican should host negotiations to end the war. Moscow wants low-level negotiations to continue in Turkey and asserts that Putin will not attend any talks with Kyiv. (Source)

Russia's foreign minister Sergey Lavrov told journalists today that "Russia's ambitions exceed the four regions", because "for Russia this is a question of existence of Ukraine as a state and the Ukrainians as a people". He added that Russia is not going to "leave Ukraine to Zelensky's junta". (Source)

For the hundredth time, a Russian official has confirmed: They want to seize all of Ukraine and end Ukraine's existence as a nation.

Yesterday, you mentioned an article stating Trump told his European counterparts he doesn't believe Putin wants to end the war?

Well, time to act accordingly.

The US should either withdraw or go all-in now. This current state of limbo with fruitless negotiations does more harm than good.
Would that be 550% on our EU friends?

It's a bit weird you keep going to this well despite the fact Witkoff told Putin that Trump would allow the Nord Stream pipeline to reopen again. Moreover, as @PEMM rightly pointed out, the US still imports Russian goods as well.

We'll see what happens. Putin had a chance to declare victory to his people, ie., no NATO membership, Crimea, etc. But the old KGB agent may have overplayed his hand. 500% secondary tariffs on Russian oil, especially if OPEC increases production simultaneously, would be disastrous for Russia.

Yes, but only in the medium-to-long term.

History suggests that economic warfare alone never brings down a belligerent, let alone immediately. Nazi Germany's military defeat came 18 months after it's economic position had become untenable. One could say the Japanese Empire entered the War already defeated in economical terms.

And if there's one thing the Russians are good at, it's enduring hardship.

I hear you on that.

But Germany and Japan were locked in existential wars.
They had no choice but to fight to the bitter end.

Russia on the other hand has the choice of peace. Enduring hardships for the Russian people is one thing. Enduring no cash for the elites is another.

PoWs like these deserve an exchange rate of 1:10, as they should be placed in a zoo:

And I’d like Rachel Weiss AND Scarlett johansen to serve me dinner. If you could sub me say 200million I think it might happen.

I know you say Russia has in past wars took a lot of suffering, that was when Germans were coming at them, a bit like Ukraine now, or Blighty in 1940, we didn’t really have much choice. I can’t see the gym moms of Moscow digging anti tank ditches.

I’d say these gung-ho messages are for internal use.

But if that was me, I’d be looking for someone to blame, so either trump is going to be blamed, for forcing a peace, I can’t think putin would blame the Russian folk, maybe the oligarchs? Couple of prison sentences and 3 window falls? I wouldnt want to be no 2 at the tank factory right now.

If Russia wanted to win this, it would drop a small nuke on Kiev, or Odessa. It can’t because uncle xi says no.

Trump already pushing the 500% tariff, I’d bet on weapons deliveries to ukr next.

After that unflagged tankers are going to start sinking, probably 50 in one night, all over the world.

You would put 550% on all EU countries?

When overall situation is, that Russian imports account for 1.4% at the moment and have dropped 90% from pre-war?

US itself is importing few billions worth of stuff.

Yes. Buy oil elsewhere. Not one penny to Putin.

Let me know when Rachel and Scarlett come over, I'll swing by and give you a hand. I mean, what are friends for. ;)

There are two schools of thought regarding Putin.

1) The war must continue for him to hold power.

2) He needs an off ramp soon, but must craft it in a way where it looks like victory.

I subscribe to number 2. Cutting off oil revenue certainly puts tremendous pressure on him and his buddies. Hard to get in that farker's head though. Even if the war continues, no oil revenue only helps the cause.... immensely.

50 unflagged oil tankers sinking in one night? Now that would be a lot of bad luck. :)

We could do with some Trump unpredictability right now. At this point he is only making every Ukraine war blogger prediction that Trump would fail and make it worse come true.

It looks like the US Senate is onboard with the Russian sanctions.

You just said you want to impose it on all EU countries. Doesn't leave much carrot to not import.

So how are we supposed to force countries like Hungary, for us to not face this.

I was speaking about the EU generically. But, it wouldn't be the worst thing if the EU helped enforce the sanction.
