In 2004, a Sukhoi Su-25 aircraft piloted by Belarusian mercenaries and Ivorian pilots attacked a French peacekeeping force in Bouaké, Ivory Coast. The attack killed nine French soldiers and an American aid worker, and wounded 37 others. The French responded by destroying the Ivorian air force, including the two Su-25s used in the attack.
Explanation
The Su-25s were used by the government forces of Laurent Gbagbo in the First Ivorian Civil War.
The Belarusian mercenaries were former pilots and technicians from the Armed Forces of Belarus.
The French military used MILAN missiles to damage the two Su-25s that attacked the French troops.
The French captured the Yamoussoukro airfield and seized the other two Su-25s.
The Belarusians left the country shortly after the attack.
A criminal case was opened against the Belarusians for the murder of servicemen.
The Equatorial Guinea National Guard acquired two Enstrom 480B helicopters. Both helicopters are part of the Helicopter Flight at Malabo Airport. It is unclear whether these Enstroms are still operational or not.
