Wojtek (the bear) enlisted as private with Polish II Corps.
After the battle of Monte Cassino promoted to corporal for helping the 22nd Artillery Supply Company with heavy crates of ammunition normally carried by 4 men.

Sadly only one survived the war. the other four collided with friendly aircraft in combat or flight.
