Considering that the cameras do not have facial recognition, and australia doesn't have a central photo database of all it citizens, this is nothing like chinese surveilance.

Um. They do. If a citizen has a passport or drivers license they are in a facial recognition DB same as the US.

If that is the case then I stand corrected. But we are nothing like China and do not need to be scared. Our recent open and free election with an opposition party winning power is something, sadly, that many chinese citizens can only dream of.

The rising crime wave is the reason. But they better ban gangs first before installing this on the entire populations civil rights. Just like with the guns they go after the citizen and not the criminal.

It's more about the unfettered use of technology. Australia is not an edge case.
