I'm a huge fan of the show 9-1-1 Ironically, precisely because of diverse and realistic cast. I live a block a away from the fire house and things do match up (well, more or less) to what's depicted in the show. I was looking forward to a spin off, 9-1-1 Lone Star but after reading a glowing review, I'm going to steer clear. Talking about taking things too far to the realm of lunacy.

The series stars Rob Lowe as Capt. Owen Strand, a fire chief who is recruited to rebuild a station after nearly the entire force is lost in a tragic explosion — a task he has experience with after most of his own NYC unit was lost at Ground Zero on 9/11. In addition to his own son TK (Ronen Rubinstein), a gay man who is struggling with heartbreak and addiction and could use a change of scenery, Strand employs a fresh crew to represent modern America: a devout Muslim and badass rescuer named Marjan Marwani (Natacha Karam); a trans man named Paul Strickland (Brian Michael Smith); and a promising rookie named Mateo Chavez (Julian Works).

9-1-1 has long featured a diverse cast of characters and certainly deals with difficult social issues, but here in Lone Star, the intentionality of its inclusion is more overt and spoken to. Even the guy who first seems to be a local yokel, lone survivor Judd Ryder (Jim Parrack), is married to a black dispatcher named Grace Ryder (Sierra Aylina McClain). No one can be painted with broad strokes, and to anyone accusing the show of trying to be woke, 9-1-1: Lone Star is enthusiastically nodding and smiling that yes, that is exactly what's happening. And while an early episode does seize on the opportunity to condemn hate — giving a bigoted character the point-and-stare treatment as our prism of heroes stand proud — the show is also careful not to make a mockery of its titular locale. All the salooning, horseback riding, cowboy hatting, and barbacoa is a celebration of Texas' culture. As the second episode's title declares, "Yee-haw!"

Florida cop suspended for wife's Facebook posts against Rashida Tlaib

A police officer from southern Florida was suspended from his job for supporting his wife after she posted on social media statements accusing Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib of being a "Hamas-loving antisemite," the Miami Herald reported.

Cpl. Pablo Lima, who serves the police department of Bay Harbor Islands in Miami-Dade County and is a former vice president of the police union, was put on administrative leave and is the subject of an internal affairs investigation, according to town manager J.C. Jimenez.

Speaking to the Herald, Lima-Taub explained that her primary issue with Tlaib is the congresswoman's support of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, which she considered equal to supporting Hamas and Hezbollah.

A week after the vote, Cpl. Lima shared a news story on Facebook about the incident and liked five comments expressing support for his wife. However, these posts also contained provocative statements regarding Tlaib, including suggestions that she "took her [congressional] oath on the Koran," "openly hates Jews" and that she "supports the people who flew planes into our [New York] twin towers and killed over 5,000 people."

However, Lima didn't post any comments himself.

Nonetheless, according to the Herald, the Bay Harbor Islands police department prohibits any speech that “ridicules, maligns, disparages, or otherwise expresses bias against any gender, race, religion, or any protected class of individuals,” even over social media.

In addition, this may have ruined Lima's further career.

?

It's not like I ever cared about comics, but this is too damn hilarious. Marvel's new "New Warriors" literally consist of e.g. a fat Indian chick called 'Trailblazer' or two "non-binary" protagonists called 'Snowflake' and 'Safespace'. Behold your superheroes for the 2020s!

Gotta love wokism. When the least absurd thing about pop culture is a character who's breathed in his grandpa's "internet gas" and he's now connected to google all the time.

That’s all, folks: New Looney Toons will strip Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam of their rifles and pistols in response to US gun violence - but they will still get knives and TNT to hunt Bugs Bunny

The new Looney Toons cartoon will strip Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam of their rifles in response to US gun violence, the show's makers have confirmed.

Executive producer of the new series, Peter Browngardt, told The New York Times: 'We're not doing guns. But we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All of that was kind of grandfathered in.'

That means frustrated hunter Fudd will still get a scythe to hunt Bugs Bunny.

The series airs on HBO Max and premiered last week. It features 200 new cartoons starring Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Tweey Bird.

Each episode will last between one and six minutes.

Elmer Fudd had traditionally chased Bugs Bunny with his catchphrase: 'Shhh. Be vewy, vewy quiet. I'm hunting wabbits.'

Yosemite Sam, who traditionally carried pistols, is also an enemy of Bugs Bunny.

Browngardt added: 'I always thought, "What if Warner Bros had never stopped making Looney Tunes cartoons?"

'As much as we possibly could, we treated the production in that way.'

Artist Johnny Ryan added: 'We're going through this wave of anti-bullying, everybody needs to be friends, everybody needs to get along.

'Looney Toons is pretty much the antithesis of that.

'It's two characters in conflict, sometimes getting pretty violent.'

The news sparked a mixed reaction online with some Twitter user suggesting the move was a 'snowflake' reaction.

One Twitter user commented: 'Elmer fudd without his gun, is like yosemite sam without his moustache.'

But others praised the decision, writing: 'I love cartoons; always have and I'm a big believer that classic cartoons can teach us a lot about the world views of the era they were made, even if they aren't socially acceptable in a modern era. Especially so. So kudos Warner Bros for taking this stance on gun violence.'

One Twitter user joked: 'I can't believe this needs to be said, but Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd were never responsible gun owners anyway.'

Looney Tunes originally launched in 1930 and ended 39 years later.

Other franchises have also had to made adjustments for modern audiences.

In November last year Disney issued warnings across many of its older films.

Several titles on Disney+ include the warning that it 'may contain outdated cultural depictions' or that it may contain footage of characters smoking.

Yes, cause if you get killed by a melee weapon it is sooo much different than getting shot and killed.
FFS they are classic cartoons, kids don't know about politics, let them be kids until they have the right to vote.

Good luck hunting a rabbit with a pickaxe or a scythe.
Well you really should be eating meat substitute anyway you criminal.......... you animal oppressor!

*Sarcasm disclosure* - for any butt hurt context twisters out there.
* just to be sure... not you Ivan, I appreciate you and your rational opinions, even though some of your own countrymen have expressed their displeasure of your right to free think.

I've seen those cartoons - he was useless at hunting them with a gun anyway so I'm not sure it'll make much difference.

Surely that must just be a glitch with the photo they were using? Surely they can't be stupid enough to remove just churchill and leave some of the "others"up?

There was no problem for me. When I googled the picture of Winston Churchill came up straight away.

It's much more serious and dangerous than just another woke lunacy. It's a very deliberate attempt to take STEM fields under leftist ideological control, something which STEM faculties in the universities largely have escaped so far.

Yes, that was googles response. It's fixed at my end.

As for tuppy guts sooking about the Torries being voted in. Actions have consequences, Labour can't run Jeremy Corbyn and expect to get in. Australian Labor found out the same thing with Bill Shorten.
