This is one of the rare few instances where the absence of regulation actually proves harmful. Congress (and many other parliaments) could never be arsed to determine whether Twitter and the likes are media organs or mere service providers. In my mind, the answer is clear. The postal service can't censor my letters nor should Twitter be allowed to do the same.

I will concede there are arguments for disagreeing with that viewpoint. Maybe social media is an entirely different breed of animal, maybe they should be given some sort of virtual domestic authority. You know, much like a bar owner can throw out undesirable guests who're bothering his patrons. Having said that, they should at least be consistent and enforce their rules against everyone.

By the way, here's a curious anecdote … a couple of months ago I got temporarily banned from reddit for pointing out that their new terms of services – a section of which seems to suggest it's offensive calling minorities capable of discriminating against a majority – is tantamount to denying that Apartheid ever existed in South Africa. They didn't like that at all.

Looks like it's Marilyn Manson's turn to get metooed.

Manson has been dropped by his record label after Wood said that he abused her "for years" during their relationship.
"The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years".

Three other women also came forward and posted accusations against Manson of emotional and psychological abuse in the last 10 years.
Manson responded to the allegations on social media:
"Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality".
"My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth."

Oh, that's right, some have set the standard "I believe it's plausible because I believe this is his character and have you looked at him? All ridiculous and dressed like a creepy pervert clown?"

Well to be totally honest I have no evidences of Marylin Manson having indeed misbehaved in his younger years but having watched the infamous VHS of him and his peers then taking dumps after a concert and picking it up with a fork only to run after each other’s with it; nothing would actually surprise me much.

Marilyn Manson is a weird dude, but someone I’d probably enjoy debating once in a small group social setting.

Having said that, if a person chooses to create and inhabit a nihilistic persona and engage in less conventional & higher risk activities with sexual partners it’s probably a good idea to consistently maintain a library of audio/video acknowledgement and signed consent forms, for each event.

And still keep a lawyer on retainer.

Example: “Choke me daddy!” “OK” while it is a contract with both offer and acceptance, without a signed/dated/diarised consent form as well as audio/video acknowledgement of aforementioned.........means you will swing from a rope until reputationally dead if the counter party runs the analytics determining their social audience will increase X by throwing you and your Y social audience under the cancel culture bus.

On the other hand, lawyers negotiating freak and kink probably takes the spontaneity out of it....but would make for a rather funny YouTube video...especially if it’s in posh English lawyer accents.

Maybe this could be the next billion dollar app......Siri and Alexa can watch you like Gorgon Stare or Sauron to ensure you are within generally accepted consent parameters To avoid being cancelled and turned into Soylent Green.
