Movie / TV TV-Shows/Series you are currently watching

Watched the first 6 seasons of Supernatural.

Almost dropped it half way through season 1. While I dug the concept of hunting manifested legends & myths, it got very repetitive, very fast, The show runners took a huge gamble there.
From Season 3 on though it get's more lively and interesting ( don't skip to S3 lol ), especialy if you are into the themes and topics the show deals and plays with and there are some interesting thought provoking ideas, takes and twists. So far I'm quite entertained. Quite graphic from time to time. Actualy that part is handled pretty well for a TV show. Partialy done better than in big budget movies .... which is quite sad.
Some filler episodes and fights can be very goofy, and while there is good character development, there is also this constant back and forth of attitudes, which honestly is realistic .... but also annoying sometimes. Those are really my only gripes.
Just for curiosity and entertainment sake, it's a solid package, I can definitly recommend.
Maybe not to people who are too sensitive about religious topics though ? Idk. ^^ Prsonaly I think if a TV show upsets you that much, the problem lies somewhere else.

Currently watching "Pennyworth".
It follows Alfred Pennyworth's ( yes Batman's butler and ex sas ) life decades before he meets Batman. The show is set in a grim alternate England in the 1960s.
Fun idea. Why not. So far it's quite entertaining and well done. More graphic than I expected.
To my surpise, the critic score was lower than I thought. So I wasted my time to read some of the negative ones, and I really don't know what I was expecting ....
They all are: "It's a good show, but since it adds nothing to Batman mythos .... it's bad". What a great way to judge something. ?
So, don't expect Batman to show up in a period where he wasn't even born and be surprised nobody even mentions him.

Watched "The Terror"
Inspired by a Dan Simmons nove, this is the story of the Expedition of the HMS Erebus and Terror to discover the NorthWest Passage and its demise.
Good show with a pinch of supernatural atmosphere.
Worth the watching (beware however, it is not full action, if you don't like "behind closed doors" situations, this may not be for you)

Les Norton on the ABC. The books were required reading in the Royal Australian Regiment in the 90s. Some of the boys in the Battalion would have only ever read Les Norton books...
It's on the ABC on Sunday nights, no doubt it's on abc iview too.

I quite like what they've done with this series. I reckon old Robert G. Barrett would be pretty happy too, if he was still alive.

Recently I started watching a car restoration series called Rus Bros and I have to say, I have seen many car restorations Tv series but this top mine. It is humourous, saw the passion and also how they sell what they built, a good 9/10 and look forward to season 2

I watched "the spy" on Netflix with Sasha Baron Cohen. I have to say that some stuff is lost in a mini-series (notably how he achieved that level of relationship with senior deciders), but I really liked it...

Sasha Baron Cohen really is a talented actor.

Rewatched Band of Brothers - Episode 2 "Day of Days". I dig episodes where Winters plays the main role. Plus, I like how hard they hit the jerry in this one.

Watched Peaky Blinders new season. Enjoyed it, again. Would have liked another episode or two, but. Good stuff.

New season of Jack Ryan coming Nov 1 on Prime. Looking forward to it but I know there's gonna be some bullsh*t plotline that cheapens the whole thing.

Two takes on War of the Worlds came out recently.

One made by the BBC and another made by Studio Canal (iirc).

The BBC one: 3 episodes (though I have only been able to see 2, the third... can't find it for some reasons); taking place in the early 1900ies and giving a nice, somehow, steampunk vibe; apparently faithful to the source material though, apparently, from the perspective of other characters; no "unnecessary representation" (that's the BBC we are talking about); no modern social politics forcefully shoved in; fairly well done.
From what I have read the budget thrown in was quite consequential and it shows. The CGIs are rather convincing, the actors are acting in a decent way and I surprised myself thinking, on a few occasions, "huh... they are making decisions that make sense? That's not something I would have expected to happen in a TV show."

Do I recommend it? Sure, why not. It's good enough, not too long, though I wish I could have found all the episodes.

The Studio Canal one: 9 episodes; takes place in our time; acting is fine; nice build up. And that's pretty much it.
The big issue I have with that show is that I am still trying to figure out why it is called War of the Worlds. Because, in the end, it has nothing to do with War of the Worlds. It starts like it, to some extent, but then develops and ends into something completely different.

That being said, it is not a bad show, but you get left wondering where the show is going and... well... what is the point of it? What is the story?

Watching this one at the moment, excellent series with the 1st season in 2016 and a 2nd season following.
Freed after 20 years in prison, the child killer Guy Beranger found refuge with the monks in Vielsart, a small village in Belgian's Ardennes. He is placed under the protection of a young Federal Police's inspector, Chloé Muller. A little while after his release, a little girl disappears.

Public Enemy (French: Ennemi Public) is a Belgian French-language crime thriller based loosely on the Marc Dutroux case

Les Norton

very entertaining, very fun to watch, fast paced. Surprisingly good acting and decent production values. But, there is one BUT, and a very big but. Because of my job, I deal with Australian and New Zealand clients a lot. I watched quite a lot of Australian shows in my lifetime as well as Supercars (frm V8Supercars) series. That being said, I found Australian :p in this show difficult to understand. It took me up to Episode 4 to settle in. Which is really odd, since I would have assumed that every show produced in Australia should have an international market in mind especially nowadays.

Anyway, 8.5 for me, seriously would have been 9.5 if wasn't for accents.

Alright, back to Netflix...

The End of the F***ing World.

A British series I was following two years ago and this is the (to me anyway) unexpected second season. I thought there would be only one...

Anyhow, I’m 4 ep in, and it’s pretty good. Both teenagers that were involved in the first are back after various misfortunes and felonies, and an interesting, eerie third character which match the original season to an extent.

Give it a watch.

Watched the first three episodes (or eight) of The Witcher last night. Mostly pretty good. Sticks closely to the books but not exactly. The Yennifer origin stuff was (as far as I know) not covered in the books at all, but still wasn't pretentious toss.

So far so good.

I'm a f***ing idiot. Didn't realise we had a dedicated thread for the small screen.

I wonder if am the only one that is annoyed of the fact that no other season of the Original Equalizer TV Series wasn't made available only DVD on Season 1

I always though it was a work of brilliance .. having Edward Woodward play the role .. added plus seeing him drive around in a Black Jag ,, ,It was like James Bond Retired

Pennyworth this show has gotten some good reviews and was renewed for Season 2. For sure, it has lavish production values (omg, these British late-1950s and early-1960s automobiles) good acting, DC and Warner Media backing, but I found the show boring and slow paced. Episodes 9 and 10 were great, though. EPIX is small network here in the States, and, unfortunately to make this show happen they sacrificed Berlin Station that I enjoyed very much. Much more than the very expensive undertaking that is Pennyworth.

I have started « The Witcher » tonight, and have never read the books but I’m liking it so far. I read both great reviews and a rather negative one over at BBC. I’m in between. It’s certainly not awful but not mind blowing either.

I started watching Pennyworth based on the good things said in this thread. So far I'm liking it.

Finished watching the Witcher. I've read all the books and played the games a lot. I'm mostly liking it but sometimes I think their pacing seems a bit … off.
