Movie / TV TV-Shows/Series you are currently watching

Just finished the entire run of The Americans - up and down a little bit in places like most series but a thoroughly enjoyable trip back in time and no cop out ending for once.

Good Omens, got criticized for the bits where the two leads weren't on screen and for the kids' acting but as a fan of the original book I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Binged Animal Kingdom on Prime and got caught up on TNT. A few episodes into the current season 4. I really really like it. Anyone else watch?

^^ Haven't watched it yet, but that's mostly because I really enjoyed the film it's based on. Might give it a run.

I've watched a couple of episodes. Looks alright.

Just started Good Omens. Well, the wife started it and I'm an accomplice.

I'm still enjoying Rake, Endeavor, The Expanse, and a few others as time permits. I've got a really short attention span, so I end up watching things I've already watched before so that I can only half pay attention while I work on other stuff around the house. Lately, that "running in the background" show is Midsomer Murders. It's usually Buffy, but not of late.

I'm currently frantically waiting for The Expanse on Amazon Prime !!! I'm also devouring the books !

Currently, I'm back to watching anime, and without noticing, I realized I'm binging isekai S**t !! Mainly "Saga of Tanya The Evil" (Youjou Senki). WW1 Germany Analog is a good change from the classic "kid gets taken to a D&D fantasy world", lol

Season 8 of GoT was very meh, I'm disappointed.

The Twilight Zone - the original series. Very good so far, back when, you had to have scripts, ideeas and some acting skills.

Chernobyl. A masterpiece. The acting, the setpieces, the dialogue… just masterful. Just when I had thought HBO was done due to the shitshow that Game of Thrones's season eight had been, they come out with this!

I'm a bit disappointed they felt it necessary to exaggerate certain aspects of the disaster, as they stuck to the details in other parts so painstakingly they actually recreated old Soviet footage to an inch's precision.
For instance, there never was a risk that millions would die nor was there a risk of a thermonuclear explosion in the megatonne range.
But still, an insanely great show. More suspenseful than any horror movie you'll ever watch. Also, it's a very important show, politically. Outlining the risks in a world where ideology prevails over facticity.

Those government officials and journalists in Russia who called the show disrespectful and a series of lies couldn't be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, the show expressed tremendous respect towards the people of the Soviet Union, praising their courage.

I've watched the first two episodes, the ending to the second one, with the boys volunteering for the suicide mission, their meters going crazy and the radiation knocking their torches out. Wow.

I also thought that it was full of respect and admiration for the people of the Soviet Union who heeded the call, even the ones who were forcefully conscripted didn't shirk away, but things are different in present day Russia. Basically anything remotely anti-Soviet is immediately condemned as anti-Russian. With the decline of generally high education levels from the hey day of the USSR, the population at large is much more susceptible to crude propaganda with wild conspiracies taking hold. The "best" one I've read in Russian media goes as follows: the show was paid for large Western companies in nuclear energy sector with an aim of discrediting Rosatom State Atomiс Energy Corporation.

Just finished watching Seasons 1&2 of Babylon Berlin (sort of one continuous season, honestly). Here are some impressions. Lavish production values, absolutely superb acting from all-German cast, exceptional vistas as the show was filmed entirely in Germany as opposed to Easterner European country as a cheap stand in.

In my opinion, the epoch was nailed to a T. However, there are severe issues with pacing and plot that would prevent me from recommending it. The pacing is awful, the main plot (or the plots) are not well developed and feel rushed and convoluted towards the end. It feels like the whole show is a collection of well acted and directed scenes about folks going on about their lives (characters are well fleshed out), but the story, in my opinion took a back seat.

On a side note, maybe it's my imagination, but the impression that I got that the Germany was doomed in the late-1920s, if it wasn't for the Nazis seizing power than it would have been Communists with the pretty much same outcome at the end. Although, the Reds are shown as persecuted, but are portrayed are far, far from being a "good guys".

In short, if you are a fan of German history of that period, you'll enjoy the show immensely, if you are looking for a story-driven TV show and the setting is irrelevant go look elsewhere.

I just got the last Chernobyl episode. Brilliantly done.

Second season of Barry is on the hard drive at home, just need to find time to crack it open.

Looking forward to the second season of Jack Ryan and also on Prime, one called The Boys looks interesting.

Hulu Das Boot TV Show I've seen polarizing and downright negative reviews of this TV series online. My opinion, I liked it, liked it A LOT. 8.5 out of 10 for me. My major nitpick is the same sex "love story" that I feel was tacked on as the homage to our times of "MeToo" movement, but even then at the end it played out pretty well. Also, I see the 2nd season is in the works, but given the cliffhanger of how the first one ended, I don;t see how the second season can take place during WWII. I thought this would be an anthology series with subsequent season taking places in different locals with brand new story lines and cast.

P.S. Second German-centric TV show that I watched in a row, but if taken together with Babylon Berlin not a single physically attractive actress between the two (OK, maybe a minor character in Das Boot played by a French actress). Is this also the sign of times (plenty of good looking male actors, though) or just there are no attractive actresses in Germany at the moment!?

Just started watching Stranger Things on netflix yesterday, I am on season 2 now...

I love the 80s theme.
