A stray Russian-made missile apparently launched by Syria hit the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus overnight, officials say.

Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay said the air defence missile was thought to have been launched during suspected Israeli air strikes on Syria.

This is not possible, the russian missiles are very precise

SSMs may be precise. However if an air strike was going on, could this have been an SAM that got diverted by countermeasures? It would have gone some 100 to 150 km, so would that even be in range of any Russian-made SAM?

Is there no self-destruct button? Jesus. Luckily no one was killed by that bugger.

It's a model that has a self destruct system mid air
But we are talking about an aged equipment and pretty poorly trained maintenance crews.
No really astonished with such a result
And don't forget that even in mighty NATO we had stray ordnances (Bulgaria can speak that about during Kosovo air campaign)
Smart ammos turn to be dumb sometimes .....

Yeah, but what exactly prevents anyone from picking up the phone and going: "Guys, quick one… I just shot a rocket into your general direction…"
