ITALY JEWISH Community in Rome.

June 24th 2020

Signed this morning, at the Gardens of the Tempio Maggiore in Rome, the memorandum of understanding between the Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Carabinieri and the Jewish Community of Rome. The protocol, signed by General Roberto Riccardi and President Ruth Dureghello, regulates the collaboration for the protection of the artistic and cultural heritage, a fundamental part of the roots and national identity. , and in particular of the roots and identity of the Roman and Italian Jewish community. After signing, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism and the Cultural Heritage Protection Command returned 19 books to the Jewish Community of Rome as the first concrete sign of collaboration. These are books that in all probability are all attributable to the Library of the Rabbinic College of Rome and in any case belong, by subject and matter, to the Community. They are a small part of those thousands of books that were raided by the Nazis on October 13, 1943, just three days before the massive deportation of 1023 Jews to the extermination camps took place in Rome.
