I feel bad for these kids, but damn, he was in a 100 vehicle convoy! EDIT: I'm not sure how that first tweet got in there. That's a US Marine in Fallujah, 2004.

I see comments about not getting coal from Russia... I used to work in a place with billions of tons of the stuff. It's still there, and prices are way down now. Infrastructure's already in place to move it - might ease things in Europe a bit.

Poor Greta would have a screeching fit, but it's tough times for everybody now.
good luck getting biden to agree to that

If they want their Kyiv column to be turned into Highway of Death 2.0 by aircraft they never saw coming then sure, attack targets inside NATO member territory. First the F-35s take the AD, then the A-10s and Apaches move in along with anything bigger that happens to be in the area.

The Black Sea fleet would cease to exist right around the same time.

This is one of the main reasons why imo the Russians held back significant formations early on. Putin feared getting hit in the flank by a NATO attack and wanted to preserve his best equipped troops for a worst case scenario.

Triggering Art. 5 would make that scenario a reality, but with most of that reserve already engaged after a disappointing opening stage of the war. Russia has nothing to gain by doing this.

The equipment and intel will cause additional casualties for the Russians until they wrap up combat operations, but the alternative involves getting chased back to the Russian border with the USAF on their tail. And in that situation that's the most positive outcome imaginable for everyone involved.

If this were Syria or Afghanistan you'd just be waiting until a rocket flies off and one of them gets caught in the backblast ?

That is what happens when you've got your wife next to you in the car, and you made the mistake of giving her the map ?
At what point does the west decide that nuclear threats from a loony, who can’t plan a camping trip For 10 people, for a week, and who’s army still issues steel helmets, are worth the risk.

^---- I, unfortunately for Ukraine, still cannot conceive of risking a Russian nuclear attack on the West.

I would like to see that column that is headed for Kyiv suddenly get disrupted, but I think any sort of NATO / "Western" (USA/UK come to mind) fingerprints on such an event would be an insanely bad thing for the Northern Hemisphere.

well, Putin doesnt exactly seem to be rational.
what we consider to outside of consideration, he seems to think otherwise.

Stupid question but why aren't wee seeing ukranian army and their tanks around? Afaik they had also many of them in storage.
Perhaps because the Ukrainian bloggers are actually smart enough not to reveal their own army's positions by publishing any such footage.

Yeah, the prices for scrap metal must be coupled to the ruble by now.
Just putting this out here, but I'd be interested in an 80% BTR-82A. Plenty of friends that can weld ...

That's what I've been wondering too, but it kind of makes sense. Why risk a tank-on-tank engagement when you can lob a Javelin over the hill over the soon Russian ex-tank. The few videos there are of Ukrainian tanks seem to confirm the age old principle that whomever gets the first shot off has a good chance of winning.

Seeing as the Ukrainians are on the defensive the odds favor them as long as they can keep Russian air assets off of them.

well, Grandpa did have to give a speech today, he might be down for the rest of the week. He'll let 'horizontal' Harris handle everything...

Don't worry. The rest of his cabinet is perfectly capable of getting us into WW3 even as he sleeps.
Oh well. In the mean time just chill and listen to some tunes from Joe's record player, I've selected an optimistic song from around the time Joe hit the retirement age.
